The role
Turquoise Mountain is seeking a creative projects junior manager to join its UK-based creative team. With flexible hours through the working week, and based in London, the person appointed to the role will work closely with the UK and programme teams in Afghanistan, Myanmar, Jordan and Saudi Arabia to support artisans in accessing a growing client base and bespoke commercial opportunities, design partnerships and an international exhibition programme. The successful candidate will have strong organisational skills and a background relevant to the role, ideally with experience in interiors, design or exhibitions, and excellent communications skills. A background in textiles and design software skills would both be advantageous. They will be proactive and a self-starter, with attention to detail and able to work flexibly and at a fast pace, responsive to needs of clients, partners or high-profile projects.

Turquoise Mountain was founded in 2006 by His Majesty King Charles III to revive historic areas and traditional crafts, to provide jobs, skills and a renewed sense of pride. Since 2006, Turquoise Mountain has restored over 150 historic buildings, trained over 15,000 artisans, treated over 165,000 patients at our Kabul clinic, and supported and generated over $17 million in sales of traditional crafts to international clients, including Kate Spade and London’s Connaught Hotel. Turquoise Mountain has also curated major international exhibitions at museums around the world, from the Museum of Islamic Art in Doha to the Smithsonian Museum in Washington D.C. Turquoise Mountain has now built over 50 small businesses in Afghanistan, Myanmar, and the Middle East, supporting a new generation of artisans who drive economic development and safeguard and celebrate their unique cultures and traditions.
Scope of work
Client relationship management:
- support with developing Turquoise Mountain’s client network, focusing particularly on high-end interiors and design clients in UK and globally
- serve as point of contact for high end interiors clients, distributing production information and marketing materials and prompting follow-ups and regular communications as needed
- for identified clients, act as the liaison between the client and in-country production teams during sampling, order placement and fulfilment, tracking end-to-end process from initial contact to delivery, and keeping oversight of those communications
- work as part of team to deliver international bespoke commercial projects that bring together products across artisan communities and showcase Turquoise Mountain’s work
- maintain overall client contact sheet and databases and track all client updates. Work with finance team to ensure all contract paperwork is up to date and archived in shared folders.
Design and product development:
- develop full understanding of scope of Turquoise Mountain products and the traditions and heritage of the charity’s supported artisan communities
- carry out research into new markets, partners and audience groups, identifying market trends and opportunities as part of overall product development process
- support creative team design and product development processes with development of a materials library and ensure timely access to colour swatches, material samples, colour charts and other design tools as needed
- administer external design collaborations and partnerships and ensure smooth running of product review processes for all internal stakeholders
Displays and exhibitions:
- work as part of creative team in conceptualising and harmonising: product displays for Turquoise Mountain events and showcase activities; launch exhibits at trade shows or with partners; and cultural exhibitions and object development
- support with smooth overall delivery of displays and exhibitions with key international and UK-based partners
- attend and represent Turquoise Mountain’s artisan communities and products at key events in UK and internationally as required
Administration:
- ensure proper filing and archiving of all documents for Creative team on internal shared folders
- support with project trackers, scheduling and annual planning, and ensure smooth coordination for events and exhibitions with wider teams
- update and distribute notes and project trackers for international promotions and creative commissions meetings
- work closely with logistics assistant and other creative and commercial team members to maintain inventories and marketing materials in UK storage
