London, UK
Junior research consultant – workspace
at Toren Consulting
Toren Consulting is hiring a junior research consultant to join its team in London.
We’re offering a 12-month contract for this role.
Who are we
We are an independent security consultancy. We support architecture, construction and fit-out projects to understand and deliver better security risk, strategy and security design outcomes.
We are a small company with a tight focus and we aspire to provide exceptional service to our clients within our niche of built environment security.
We’re a small team of diverse individuals and we only hire exceptionally nice people.
What will you do?
You will support our team of experienced security consultants in producing national security guidance for co-working offices, shared laboratories and other shared workspaces.
The scope of the guidance will include physical, personnel, cyber and information security. You don’t need to be an expert in any of those.
You will be focused on research and producing documentation, including:
- open-source research (eg. existing guidance, standards and research)
- stakeholder engagement (eg. interviews, workshops and write-ups)
- guidance production (eg. report writing, presentations)
- standards production (support the development of a national standard)
You will be part of our hybrid working team, partly working from our East London office and partly from home. You can expect some travel within the UK as part of your research, stakeholder engagement and PAS support activities.
This is a fixed-term, full-time position. You will have 20 days of annual leave (plus public holidays, etc) and your salary will be the London Living Wage.
Who are you?
This role is for someone who enjoys a combination of communicating with people, carrying out research and producing a high standard of written work.
We’re passionate about security risk and security design, so to get the most out of this job you’re probably also a bit of a geek. Your interests and experience might be in research, shared workspace design or operations or any of the security disciplines to be covered by the guidance.
We’re rigorous and committed to quality; you will review the work of your colleagues and they will review yours. You should be prepared to discuss your ideas and to build upon and deliver constructive feedback. We expect you to be personally committed to producing quality work.
Essential skills
The right candidate for this role will be someone who is:
- comfortable communicating with stakeholders, interviewees etc
- capable of producing high quality written work
- able to organise their own research
Desirable criteria
If you can demonstrate these skills or experience we’ll be even more interested:
- carrying out interviews and other stakeholder engagement exercises
- research using online, open-source materials
- development of guidance or standards
- working with the UK government
- working for a shared workspace brand or operator (office, laboratory, etc)
How to apply
Send us your CV, but more importantly, write us a cover letter (both PDFs only) via the apply for job button below.
Put ‘Junior Research Consultant’ in the subject line.
Don’t copy and paste, but also don’t waste your time with waffle. In your cover letter we need you to tell us about your experience and aspirations.
Your cover letter must describe:
- how you meet the essential skills
- any experience that you would like to highlight from the desirable criteria
- why this research and guidance production project appeals to you
Process
We will review every application, and get back to you personally.
If we decide to take things further, you can expect:
- an initial online interview to discuss you, your aspirations and our company
- a written exercise on a related topic
- a face-to-face interview to discuss your experience and ideas
We hope to complete the application process in time to make an offer in January.
