Responsibilities:

  • distilling abstract business concepts and client needs into elegant creative solutions
  • acting as the main point of contact between clients and A Work Of Substance, ensuring timely response to client enquiries and the team’s needs for clarifications
  • delivering a holistic design within the projects you are assigned to ensuring there is cohesion between the interior design, architectural design, product design and branding deliverables
  • planning and preparing for potential challenges within assigned projects, and addressing appropriately and in a timely manner when these are unexpected issues
  • providing management with a plan of action and ensure this is carried out to minimize project disruption
  • creative custodianship – supporting the creative director with carrying out projects and ensuring the creative brief is understood and delivered by the team
  • delivering and leading the goal and vision of assigned projects
  • leading brainstorming and creation of concepts with a team; ideating with team members about the best way to solve a particular challenge
  • fostering a creative and pragmatic environment for the design team providing mentorship, coaching, and regular feedback to help foster development and growth within the team
  • developing knowledge for distinctive insights
  • pitch ideas confidently and present the creative vision clearly to clients, as well as communicate in the same manner to members of the creative team
  • building and managing a talented, diverse, inclusive team of creative designers and leaders that consistently delivers on projects and is well-balanced across a range of design skill sets
  • driving collaboration and vision across the company to build alignment on priorities
  • overseeing multiple projects and highlighting if there is a need to scale resources to ensure deadlines are met and be effective by setting clear direction/goals
  • helping to develop design talent and a thriving culture where designers grow in their careers and feel a strong sense of inclusion and belonging
  • fostering a strong, collaborative design practice

Requirements:

  • BA in interior design, interior architecture or architecture and over 10 to 15 years of extensive experience in designing large interior projects including urban and resort hotels is required
  • extensive experience and proven ability in business development/client relations
  • extensive experience and proven ability in the use of AutoCAD, Photoshop, Microsoft Word and Excel
  • extensive experience and proven ability in interior design and, graphic design concepts such as, but not limited to hand sketch casework, vignette scenes, hand colouring, rendering interior drawings, area take-offs and shop drawing
  • extensive proficiency and understanding of FF&E quantity matrices
  • extensive proficiency and understanding of imperial and metric measuring and drawing
  • the substantial ability and experience in independently designing major areas within the hotel and or commercial interior design project arena
  • substantial experience in interaction with clients regarding proposals, negotiations budgets and client presentations
  • extremely strong project management skills
  • the willingness and ability to travel
  • must have the ability to motivate and inspire other
  • substantial and proven abilities in interfacing with clients, consultants, vendors and internal staff
  • substantial experience in coordinating, delegating, mentoring and giving feedback to project team
  • the ability to understand and implement complex concepts, practices, and procedures within the interior design field
