Professorship in architecture and building technology
at Aarhus School of Architecture

Aarhus School of Architecture is offering a professorship in architecture and building technology to join its team in Aarhus, Denmark.

Aarhus School of Architecture has a strong academic tradition for research and teaching that combines the areas of architecture and technology. In recent years, the school has strengthened its digital competencies and significantly expanded its workshop facilities. This has been aimed at incorporating a strong element of practice-oriented studies into the school’s profile. The professorship in architecture and building technology should help develop further the practice-oriented area, with a particular focus on structural design, materials, and building components and details.

The position should help strengthen architecture and building technology within research and teaching and disseminate knowledge of the subject area to peers as well as to a wider public. The professorship should also help develop further the architectural education within the area and ensure the conceptual, methodical and practical skills which will be necessary for Aarhus School of Architecture to continue training skilled architects with a holistic approach toward materials and construction in architecture.

To achieve these ambitions, Aarhus School of Architecture is looking for a professor with clear visions for developing the subject area of architecture, materials assembly, and building technology. We expect applicants to have a significant original scientific production at an international level or a career background in architecture practice, structural engineering – or a similar field – at a high international level. Aarhus School of Architecture invites creative and innovative research and development projects within the area and calls for the development of teaching formats with the potential to make building technology, including knowledge of structural design and building statics, an exciting and natural part of the architectural education.

We would like the position filled from 1 August 2020. Remuneration will be in accordance with the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC-fællesoverenskomsten).

Aarhus School of Architecture invites all with the relevant qualifications to apply.

The affiliation of the professorship

The professorship will be affiliated with Research Lab 2, Technology, Building Cultures and Habitation, and the related teaching programme of the same name. The research lab has a major focus on bridging the gap between theory and practice. One example of these efforts is the project Material Imagination, which bridges the gap between digital studies of materials and a phenomenological set of concepts. Other projects combine architectural historical studies with new perspectives on housing, tectonics and materials – while, again, other projects have a more direct focus on the digitalisation of building construction.

The teaching activities of the position will be affiliated with the teaching programme Technology, Building Cultures and Habitation as well as with teaching activities across the school at all levels, from the bachelors and masters degree programmes to supplementary education and researcher training programmes.
