Remote working, UK
Digital modeller/visualiser
at Alex Chinneck Sculpture Studio
Alex Chinneck Studio is recruiting a digital modeller/visualiser to join its team remotely in the UK.
We are seeking to hire a 3D visualiser/digital modeller with a broad skillset to support the development and delivery of the artist’s sculptures and public artworks. We are open to discussing employment on a freelance or part-time PAYE basis (up to three days a week).
The artist’s studio has created some of the most high-profile public artworks of the past decade. We are known for introducing the illusion of fluidity to typically inflexible objects. Often working on an architectural scale, the work is complex and ambitious, requiring the involvement of multi-disciplinary and multi-sited teams.
We use digital modelling to explore and push the sculptural boundaries of different materials, ranging from small castings to very large structures. We like to think of it as a creative and collaborative working relationship that will always present new but enjoyable challenges.
The successful applicant will be responsible for providing the studio with CAD support across all stages of our projects, from ideation and concept development to fabrication drawings and online promotion. Working remotely, they will help us to visualise and communicate our ideas with clients, fabricators and the public, using a range of digital skills, software and platforms.
We are looking for individuals with the following experience and skillsets
Essential technical:
- live digital sketching/modelling to support the artist’s creative exploration (fast, unrefined models that generate quick renders)
- creating and manipulating CAD drawings with experience to a very high level of one (or more) 3D CAD package(s) – please specify which in your CV
- digital sculpting and soft body modelling with an ability to create elasticity/plasticity/flow and cloth simulations
- some ability to work with scanned data/point clouds and finesse geometry before adding material finishes
- ability to create PDFs, technical drawings and digital models
- ability to refine digital models with a high level of detail and accuracy
- ability to create files for pattern makers and five-axis machining
- ability to create high-quality CGI/digital renders
- ability to create basic digital animations
Essential personal:
- high level of attention to detail
- strong time management skills, with the ability to independently structure your time and meet deadlines
- willingness to work closely with the artist and studio manager, particularly during ideation and concept development stages where screen sharing with the artist may be frequent
- commitment to protect the confidentiality of the studio and its clients
- high level of reliability and trustworthiness
Desirable:
