Part 2 architectural assistant
at AOC
AOC Architecture is seeking a Part 2 architectural assistant to join its team in London, designing and delivering public, cultural and community projects.
The role
We are looking for a talented architectural assistant with exceptional design and presentational skills to become part of our expanding design team in our Hackney studio. You will be developing designs from concept through to completion, producing design information, visualisations and physical models. As a relatively small studio, you will be involved in all aspects of the practice from project delivery to design competitions, design reviews to in-depth research.
The practice
Established in 2005 AOC has gained international recognition for our participatory practice and public buildings. We work with our clients, collaborating with users and other experts, to develop new briefs for contemporary challenges. We engage with communities and their cultures to make designs that are useful, valuable and joyful. We use resources inventively to optimise the use of energy and minimise the emission of carbon. We are currently working on a range of buildings for public use including a new cultural and community centre in St Neots, Grade II* listed Paignton Picture House, the National Science and Media Museum, Lloyds Register of Shipping in the City of London and Stonehenge Learning Centre.
Essential skills/knowledge:
- able to work both independently and in a small team with care and intelligence
- being an excellent designer with good interpersonal skills
- able to create exceptional and characterful images
- able to create precise and haptic physical models
- good organisational skills with great attention to detail
- to be Mac literate and proficient in Adobe CC – InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator – and MS Office 365
- efficient in 2D and 3D drafting – Vectorworks 2D essential, Vectorworks 3D desirable
- a good understanding of construction methods and detailing
- able to liaise with the consultant design team to progress design development
- knowledge of NBS and writing specifications desirable
- excellent written and spoken English language skills
