Studio tutor
at Architectural Institute of Paris
The Architectural Institute of Paris is seeking a studio tutor to join its faculty in Paris.
The Architectural Institute of Paris is the first new independent school of architecture and design created in Paris in over a century, developed in response to the changes in the economic, demographic, technological, and environmental context in which architects’ operate over the last decade, as well as the changing nature of architectural practice today.
The Architectural Institute of Paris is the architecture school teaching solely in the English language in France founded and operated by RIBA Chartered Architects. The course leads to the award of the Architectural Institute Advanced Diploma in Architecture.
Located in the centre of Paris, the school is positioned at the heart of Europe in one of the world’s most iconic international cities. Continuing this international focus, our programme of study prepares graduates to enter in the fields of architecture, construction, philosophy, journalism, emerging technologies, and the arts.
Studio Tutors should foster a distinct approach to the discipline for the students to follow, providing an exciting learning experience with inspiring teaching and provide a rigorous approach to the Studio subject. With this in mind, it will be important to nurture the group dynamic, foster consistent patterns of attendance and engagement from the start, as well as inspiring and enthusing new students as they move through their research processes.
There will be a high emphasis on teaching drawing, model making, digital and physical craft as well as delivering skills in communication, presentation and professionalism. Delivering skills is essential alongside guiding the development of the students’ design projects. The bringing of new techniques and skills to the teaching team should be considered part of the collaborative working environment we encourage.
Your role will involve you interacting with students in one-to-one and group tutorials, workshops, design seminars, and formal reviews. Under the guidance of academic staff, students are expected to develop thought-provoking, speculative, well-crafted, and inspiring design outputs. Studio Tutors shall work collaboratively with the School’s Leadership to ensure students achieve successful final projects.
You should have excellent design, communication, and interpersonal skills, a highly professional approach, and a passion for teaching.
Studio Tutors must hold post-graduate degrees in Architecture, and must be active in practice. Registered architects are preferred.
Studio Tutors should have a rich professional experience with technical proficiency in design, potentially across a number of creative disciplines. Experience of teaching design in Higher Education is desirable, or for candidates who work primarily in professional practice, evidence of coordinating group activities in a creative endeavour will also be considered. Experience in progressive initiatives to encourage design participation for diverse communities is encouraged.
