Overview

The senior art consultant role includes involvement in all phases of an interior design project. Specifically, the role includes direct coordination with internal and external interior design teams in a wide variety of projects, assisting in all phases of design and the development of art consultancy services. The various phases of a project include briefing, preliminary art concept direction, schematic art phase, design development, design documentation, art specification for tender or procurement and contract administration – which may include project coordination, styling and site coordination where required. Other areas include budget preparation, pricing, supplier research and review, budget and procurement management and coordination.

The senior art consultant will report to the managing director or shareholder concerning project deliverables and prepare time schedules to ensure deadlines are met.

Job responsibilities:

  • senior art consultant will plan and organize several project types’ art and accessories selection and development, specification and be heavily involved in the procurement research, strategy and execution; projects may take place in a range of settings, including, but not limited to: hotels, office spaces, retail locations (e.g. malls, shops, cafes, forecourts), leisure spaces (e.g. cinema, recreation complexes), residential developments; apartment buildings, private residential properties and public buildings (e.g. museums and civic buildings)
  • developing initial ideas and acquiring key information about the project, discussing requirements in detail with clients and or the interior design team (the brief), and setting project schedules and budgets
  • understanding individual clients’ needs and the needs of the people using the building, developing art concepts and art direction, in consultation with the client, interior designers and/or other consultants
  • collate, record and study any information pertaining to the project matrix and identify the overall scope of project in relation to art consultancy, identifying all areas of work
  • researching and gathering information, costs and photographs relating to the project
  • review program timelines and any timeline issues for fast-track deliverables, establishing points of contact and communication channels
  • prepare conceptual art direction narratives, develop tagged schematic and detailed art and accessories layouts and styling guides presentations for presentation and submission to both internal and to external parties
  • preparation of minutes of meetings to record all discussions
  • prepare, update and review any artwork specifications and BOQs relevant to and corresponding with each project in both Excel and Dot-Studio format
  • preparing detailed working drawings, designs, plans, models and schemes, often using computer-aided design (CAD) software where appropriate for Art/FF&E items
  • review incoming shop drawings from specialist manufacturers or suppliers in line with the proposed art direction and development
  • regular sourcing and researching of artists, artworks, accessories and décor and building relationships in the field to support and sustain current and future projects
  • working effectively and in a transparent and collaborate manner within a team and alongside other designers and both internal and external consultants
  • supervising quality at the design and delivery stage and on-site when required for various projects
  • assist in the installation and styling of projects upon final delivery
  • lead by example and ensure the team is providing a professional level of service and consistently exhibiting Artychoke LLC Service Standards and Values

Other responsibilities:

  • ensure full use of the filing system and databases
  • interview and hire candidates suitable for the business and make recommendations to the managing director or shareholder
  • overview monthly billing to clients to ensure the company issues invoices on time
  • review all invoices to be issued and follow up on collections that are outstanding with the clients
  • prepare new business development proposals and secure projects for the business
  • prepare procurement and BOQs and coordinate with suppliers as required to obtain costs
  • negotiate fees and costs from suppliers
  • prepare and update company portfolio and collaterals
  • present the company to prospective clients
  • be punctual and on time to commence work
  • be responsible for ensuring that a professional, neat and tidy appearance is portrayed at all times, including leading by example through maintaining high standards of morale and appearance
  • assist and work together as part of a team, creating and maintaining a harmonious work environment; be readily available at all times to deal with problems or concerns
  • ensure company rules and procedures are followed in accordance with the Employee Handbook

Qualifications and experience:

  • a degree in interior design or similar with at least five years’ experience
  • highly developed art design and styling skills
  • creative and well organized, able to cope with high volumes of work efficiently with focus and accuracy
  • a sound knowledge of the design industry and a background in, or passion for Art, Styling, Décor and Accessories
  • possesses excellent computer skills for design i.e. CAD, sketch-up, Photoshop, Excel

Languages and skills:

  • excellent English skills (written, reading, spoken)
  • required to have advanced knowledge of MS Office (including Excel) applications, photoshop, CAD and Spec Systems
  • the ability to learn and use new systems eg. Dot Studio and other design-related software
