BPTW is hiring a principal designer to join its team in London.

BPTW is looking for an experienced building regulations principal designer for the design and delivery of large-scale residential and mixed-use developments including higher-risk buildings (HRBs).

The role

We are looking for a highly experienced, skilled and motivated individual to lead and deliver building regulations principal designer services on projects the practice is undertaking.

This is a full-time client-facing role and excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential. Based from our studio in Greenwich, South East London, and reporting directly to the design group partners, the successful individual will ideally have an architectural or technologist qualification, and/or experience of delivering principal designer services under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015.

The role will be at a senior level, potentially associate or above, and involve working closely with members of the senior management team on the design and implementation stages of projects.

Responsibilities and skills

Responsibilities will include planning, managing, monitoring and coordinating design work and making sure reasonable steps are taken to ensure that the design is in compliance with all relevant requirements of the building regulations. A meticulous approach to managing complex documentation and maintaining accurate records will be essential.

Demonstrable evidence of the competence, skills and knowledge required of a principal designer, including the legislative and regulatory framework for compliance, and a detailed understanding of the Building Safety Act including British Standard Publicly Available Specification (PAS): 8671:2022, Built environment – framework for competence of individual principal designers – specification are essential.

With the practice working across all RIBA work stages there is also a requirement to be familiar with PAS 8672: 2022 Built environment – framework for competence of individual principal contractors – specification, and other relevant technical requirements including the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 (CDM Regulations).

The successful individual will lead on developing a team to deliver PD services and, alongside the partners and other senior staff, deliver training both internally and externally, giving talks to organisations and external bodies with whom BPTW have existing relationships, and developing new relationships.
