Caroe Architecture is hiring a technician/technologist for historic buildings to join its team in Cambridge, UK.
Caroe Architecture is looking for an experienced technician or technologist to join its practice in Cambridge, though a London location would also be possible.
Caroe Architecture is dedicated both to the care and conservation of historical places and to the creation of innovative new buildings in sensitive locations. Our expertise ranges from ecclesiastical settings to complex urban, educational and cultural environments. We currently have live project work involving new design and sustainable building conservation for the National Trust, Oxford and Cambridge University Colleges, York Minster and a wide variety of other interesting Grade I and II* listed buildings, which extend to castles and industrial heritage.
We are looking for a new member of staff to support the team in our Cambridge office, though a London location could also be possible as our project teams work across both offices. You will be qualified to a minimum level of HNC/HND, with or without a degree in architectural technology. The MCIAT qualification is desirable. Some post-qualification experience in working with historic buildings is very desirable, and experience of traditional construction is essential.
Summary of role requirements:
- HNC or HND in construction, architectural technology or building studies, or a foundation degree in architectural technology, ideally also with the MCIAT professional qualification. A minimum of five years’ of relevant professional experience is also required
- overall to have robust technical skills, to be able to take projects through all RIBA project stages with a sensitivity towards and delight in historic buildings, with a proven enthusiasm for high quality design and construction. Experience of traditional construction is essential
- an excellent command of English, both written and spoken
- a demonstrable experience of and interest in historic buildings is essential, although formal training is not; the candidate would be expected to develop expertise in architectural conservation whilst in practice
- AutoCAD proficiency
- proven knowledge of UK building industry and Building Regulations
- good organisational skills
