We’re looking for a full-time or part-time (minimum of three days a week) architect and urban designer to join our team in London, Leeds or Manchester to assist in a number of exciting new projects and to support our existing urban design capability. Working closely with our architectural teams, this is a brilliant opportunity for an ambitious and talented individual to work on diverse projects at various scales.

Reporting to the directors, you will have one to three years’ experience in a similar role within an architecture practice. You’ll be an expert at translating urban design principles into clear, compelling and jargon-free reports and presentations. It’s a fast-paced environment and you’ll need to have the ability to effectively prioritise work and react flexibly to a constantly changing workload to meet deadlines.

Your duties will include (but not be limited to):

  • developing an understanding of project briefs through research and wider analysis
  • developing design proposals through iterative reviews with the project and client team
  • preparing drawings and information for coordination purposes with external consultants and in compliance with QA systems
  • ensuring the adequate integration of technical information and statutory requirements into design drawings
  • regularly presenting at project meetings
  • analysing land and buildings, their current use and make recommendations for their future development
  • applying your vision to designing a variety of built spaces, either creating brand new designs or revising and improving existing ones – these could range from small individual streets, parks and squares to major towns, housing areas and cities
  • creating detailed drawings using your artistic or graphic skills, converting your vision into a technical drawing
  • developing excellent relationships with people – both colleagues and wider groups such as planners, architects, politicians and local communities
  • understanding the needs of people who will be using the space you design; through research and analysis you will consider political, environmental, social, economic, spatial, psychological and physical factors
  • educating communities involved with the planning of their local region or neighbourhood
  • working with the wider planning team to ensure policies and guidance are followed

You will have:

  • undergraduate degree in architecture
  • postgraduate degree in urban design and accredited with the Royal Town Planning Institute or similar nationally recognised body
  • knowledge of planning policies and the UK planning process and an ability to produce coherent and well-resolved design concepts and masterplanning schemes
  • excellent 2D and 3D CAD skills (experience of using Revit preferred)
  • exceptional Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator skills
