Freelance architect/middle-weight interior designer

Chapter Interiors is seeking a freelance architect/middle-weight interior designer to join its team in Bath, UK.
Chapter is seeking a highly motivated and creative individual to join our Bath studio. This role is ideal for someone with three to five years’ of professional experience in high-end residential design who is looking to expand their knowledge and grow within a collaborative and design-led practice.
The successful candidate will demonstrate strong conceptual thinking, a keen eye for detail, and a passion for creating exceptional spaces. A developing knowledge of interiors, architectural joinery, furniture design and specification, and construction methodologies is essential. Experience working within heritage and listed buildings is highly desirable.
Qualifications:
- ARB registered architect, or
- bachelor’s or master’s degree in architecture or interior design
- eligible to work in the UK
Role and responsibilities:
- prepare design presentation material that communicates architectural and interior concepts clearly and effectively
- support senior team members on multiple concurrent projects, with increasing responsibility for leading packages or coordinating small to mid-scale projects
- develop technical drawings and construction details for interiors and bespoke joinery
- manage time effectively to meet project deadlines, with awareness of shifting priorities
- liaise with consultants, contractors, and suppliers to ensure design intent is maintained
- assist with sourcing FF&E and preparing specifications, mood boards, and finishes schedules
- support site delivery phases, attending site meetings and responding to RFIs and contractor queries
- contribute to the practice’s material library, sustainability resources, and knowledge sharing

Knowledge:
- RIBA Plan of Work and stage-specific deliverables
- construction methodology, including detailed joinery, interior fit-out, and finishes
- knowledge and/or experience with UK Building Regulations and Planning process
- understanding of materials, finishes, and sourcing (incl. cost awareness)
- developing knowledge of sustainable building practices, certifications (e.g. BREEAM, WELL), and circular design principles
- experience navigating heritage and conservation constraints
Skills:
- ability to communicate effectively through drawings, presentations, and written reports
- strong CAD drafting skills and 3D visualisation
- excellent sketching and hand-drawing ability
- competence in physical model making and 3D printing
- ability to adapt and learn new tools or workflows quickly
- strong coordination and documentation skills
