Christopher Farr is hiring a designer (maternity leave cover) to join its team in London.
One year maternity leave contract from 11 August.
Reports to: director
Hours: full-time 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
Over 30 years ago, artist and designer Christopher Farr set out to unite heritage textile craftsmanship with contemporary design vision. Since then, he and his business partner Matthew Bourne have maintained a dedication to quality and an uncompromising pursuit of beauty that has helped revolutionise rug design and restore rug-making to the status of fine art. Christopher Farr rugs are now a frequent sight at global art and design exhibitions, and in the homes of connoisseurs and collectors worldwide
Main responsibilities:
- create rug artworks for custom orders, working to briefs from artists and interior designers
- selecting colours for custom rug briefs, with a keen eye for colour matching and sample selection
- produce renderings for customers, placing rugs into photographed spaces
- act as point of contact for international production by placing, overseeing and approving orders
Skills and abilities required:
- experience working as a designer with textiles and weaving construction is vital, preferably within a carpet or rug business with experience working on contract projects. Due to length of contract, we are looking for an experienced designer as the duration doesn’t allow for significant training and development on the technical aspects of rug production
- strong organisational skills and ability to meet deadlines on multiple projects
- confidence in sense of design and very keen eye for detail
- problem solver and excellent communicator
- proficient in Adobe programs: Photoshop, Illustrator and Indesign
- start by the specified date and proof of the right to work in the UK
- able to commute 5 days a week to Shoreditch office with adhoc days at Chelsea showroom.
