Cambridge, UK
Project architect
at Cowper Griffith Architects
Cowper Griffith Architects is looking for an experienced project architect to join its team in Cambridge, UK.
CGA works across a number of sectors, with a particular focus on bespoke residential, community/visitor facilities, ecclesiastical, housing and higher education. No two scenarios are alike, though many involve the careful conservation, extension and betterment of heritage assets and precious landscapes. Our work is bound by a consistent quality, sensitivity, ingenuity and craft, as we seek to create enduring spaces and settings informed by a deep understanding of their contexts.
We work primarily in the South East and East Anglia, often on beautiful rural and coastal sites, though we have nationwide coverage for the right project. We are regularly invited to bid for interesting work and we deliver award winning, contemporary buildings for a range of national and regional heritage and landscape custodians.
Recent completions include a flagship project for the Landmark Trust, converting and conserving a Grade I building in Yorkshire. Bid successes include the ongoing revitalisation of Thomas Telford’s Grade II* Canal Maintenance Yard in Cheshire.
Our small, purpose-built offices just south of Cambridge offer a bright, open plan and collaborative working environment.
We seek candidates with:
- excellent oral, written and drawn communication skills
- demonstrable experience across work stages
- evidence of robust, clear working drawings
- evidence of a role in the delivery of crafted buildings
- familiarity with UK building regulations
- up to three years’ post-qualification experience
We use Vectorworks 3D and the Adobe Creative Suite.
Projects range in size from £0.25m to £10m. Staff are expected to be able to work independently, running their own projects on site and reporting directly to a senior colleague, or as part of a small team delivering larger and more complex proposals.
In addition, there will be competition entries and bids, and concept and planning schemes requiring considered inputs, arresting imagery and thoughtful, concise text.
The practice is relatively small but increasingly busy, and we anticipate a stimulating 2025.
Salary will be in line with current survey data.
Candidates must be eligible to work in the UK.
To apply please send a covering letter, CV and portfolio (no larger than 10MB) via the apply for job button below.
