Part 2 animator/architectural designer
at Do Ho Suh
The London-based studio of artist Do Ho Suh is looking for Part 2 architectural designer.
This role requires close collaboration with the artist and studio team on the second phase of a long-term conceptual design project.
The project collaborates with a multitude of specialists from different fields, from philosophers, engineers, architects to fashion designers. We are specifically seeking candidates who are interested in thinking and designing speculatively, and pushing these ideas through multiple forms of representation. Candidates should demonstrate conceptually driven designs with an ability to express originality of ideas through their portfolio. The project will require a team member that is highly skilled in hand-sketching with the aim of visually presenting complex ideas from this ever expanding thought experiment. Animation skills are a plus. The role would benefit from someone with multi-disciplinary interests who is looking to test the boundaries between art and architecture and work outside of a traditional practice.
Requirements:
- skilled in Rhino, VRay, InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and knowledge of other Adobe Suite software
- skilled in animation software, Cinema4D (Octane render) and/or other similar softwares, such as Maya, Houdini, 3DS Max etc.
- an interest in art and creative approaches to architecture
- extremely organised and capable of juggling a busy workload
- friendly and personable
Responsibilities include:
- sketching initial design ideas with the artist and architectural design lead and using digital processes to visualise the artist’s intentions from concept to realised design
- producing detailed, final hand drawings and specifications and/or using dedicated computer software to produce design specifications
- producing Rhino 3D models from 3D archival scans/mesh data
- testing design concepts by computerised modelling, physical hands-on testing of models or 3D animation
The role is fixed term for six months with the scope of extension. Based in the studio in N1, London, five days a week (9–5.30pm). Salary commensurate with experience.
