FaulknerBrowns Architects is seeking a junior model maker to join its team in Newcastle upon Tyne, UK.

As a junior model maker, you will assist in the day-to-day operations of the model shop, translating our imagination and designs through physical model making.

You will work with our architectural design teams and train under our associate model maker in the model shop, and assist in the creation of models, mock-ups and design prototypes using various techniques and materials.

The ideal candidate will have the following skill set and personal qualities:

  • an ability to manage your work and deal with various project deadlines
  • some previous experience in producing scale models or model making, experience using materials (foam, wood, plastic, metal, resin, composites) is preferred but not required
  • some working knowledge of AutoCAD, CorelDRAW or similar, and a grasp of laser cutting and 3D printing technology – not essential
  • an ability to adopt organised working practices in line with Health and Safety regulations on workshop tools and machinery (table saw, band saw, planer, disc sander, bench grinder, drill press, other hand tools) – any necessary training will be provided
  • personal development: a willingness to expand on your modelling knowledge and implement processes and methods accordingly – to show a creative mindset as part of your contribution to the practice
  • create and maintain a good working relationship within the practice with a view to, over time, expand your role and opportunities
  • documenting your work by means of photography and videography, and engaging with our communications and social media teams to help create content
