Greenwich design review panel member
at Frame Projects
Frame Projects is seeking design review panel members on behalf of the Royal Borough of Greenwich in London.
Incorporating historic Greenwich, naval Woolwich, leafy Charlton and the suburban areas of Abbey Wood and Thamesmead, this historically diverse and significant place continues to attract a significant amount of new development. Ongoing regeneration projects like the Greenwich Peninsula and its design district draw people to the area from across London and beyond. Greenwich is extremely proud of the quality and character of its historic environment and the exceptional buildings, townscape and landscape which it is responsible for sustaining. New development is expected to create places that are of high quality and sensitive to the area’s unique and diverse character. The Royal Borough of Greenwich has announced a climate emergency and is preparing a plan for the borough to become carbon neutral by 2030. In this context, the council aims to ensure new development minimises embodied and operational greenhouse gas emissions, and facilitates low carbon lifestyles.
To support these aspirations, Frame Projects is establishing a design review panel on behalf of Greenwich Council. The panel will play an important role in furthering the council’s commitment to securing exemplary high quality development that complements and enhances the borough’s townscape.
We encourage applications from groups currently under-represented in the building industry, including people with disabilities, women, members of the LGBTQ+ community and those from black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds. Participation in a design review panel may be one way in which the next generation of talented designers from diverse backgrounds can build their professional profile and experience. We believe this has potential to make a small but worthwhile contribution to improving the diversity of the built environment professions.
Applications are welcome from experts in the following areas:
- architecture
- town planning/urban design
- landscape/ecology
- heritage/townscape
- sustainability/low carbon design
- active travel/transport planning
The panel will have around 23 members and typically five members will attend each review. It will test the fundamental design principles of planning proposals both at pre-application stage and as part of the application process itself.
Applications should be addressed to Frame Projects, which manages the design review panel to maintain the independence of its advice. Those who wish to apply should request a recruitment pack via the apply for job button below.
The closing date for applications is Friday 6 October 2023 at 17.00.
Applicants should be able to commit to attending approximately three meetings a year. Appointment will initially be for the calendar year starting in November 2023. Remuneration will be set at £500 per day and £250 per half day.
This position is only available to applicants based in the United Kingdom
