Strategy lead

FreeState is seeking a strategy lead to join its team in Melbourne, Australia.

FreeState are experience masterplanners.

We work with brand builders and city makers to design the sorts of places that people want to live, work and play in. From reimagining airports, universities, precincts and whole neighbourhoods – we design experiences that genuinely matter to people.

Due to some exciting new client wins, we are looking to hire additional talent into our team, including a strategy lead to be based in Melbourne but supporting projects globally.

About you

As strategy lead at FreeState, you will work in partnership with the strategy director to help build and support our team of growing experience designers and team members from all walks of life. You will be thoughtfully designing and leading experience strategy engagements that lead to innovating and connected outcomes and solutions for our varied clients and their complex customers towards best in class experience for passengers, travellers, visitors, employees and citizens.

We are looking for candidates with demonstrable experience in:

  • connecting credibly and effectively with clients to build trust and ensure we deliver value
  • collaboration with clients to uncover deep human insights led by data and commutating back in a way that’s simple and impactful
  • visualising and facilitating creation of design artefacts – eg. strategic frameworks, as-is and future state customer journeys, service blueprints, storyboards, concept prototypes, etc.
  • generation of design solutions that address strategic and organisational issues
  • human-centred design and testing methodologies
  • developing high-level CX, spatial or brand design strategy – either consulting, agency or in-house
  • turning strategies into sellable documents for meetings and detailed artefacts for stakeholder distribution
  • creation of compelling strategic narratives that communicate future experiences and a strategic vision that inspire change and deepen the impact of our engagements
  • excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to engage with a wide range of stakeholders and settings
  • management of teams of strategists of various levels of experience and capabilities
  • guiding and coaching designers and non-designers to support their development and uplift their strategic and design thinking capabilities
  • shaping strategies and managing projects including scope, schedule, budgets and client expectations

You will have the ability to rally, inspire and supervise highly talented teams with big ambitions tackling highly ambiguous challenges.

You should have an interest and understanding of the built environment and how humans interact and create meaning in places.
