The German University in Cairo is hiring a professor, associate or lecturer in urban design to join its staff in Cairo.
The German University in Cairo is looking for highly capable and motivated applicants wishing to join the Architecture and Urban Design Program. The GUC architecture school was founded in 2010 and can claim to be one of the most successful architecture programs in Egypt and the Mena Region.
Description
The position open is to join the architecture and urban design program at the GUC. The department embraces an integrative approach to building design with emphasis on contextual complexities and urban dynamics. Courses taught range from design studios, history and theory of architecture, urban economics and sociology, and planning. The department addresses local and global architectural and urban challenges with sustainability and resilience as core topics of research.
Responsibilities:
Successful candidates will be expected to teach both undergraduate and graduate levels, develop ongoing and innovative research activities, and contribute to the further advancement of the architecture and urban design program.
Successful candidates
Will be expected to contribute to undergraduate and graduate teaching in:
- history and theories of architecture
- design studios with emphasis on contextual challenges
- advanced elective courses on heritage and conservation
- supervising bachelor/master/PhD theses in the field of architecture and urban design
- commitment to engage in interdisciplinary studies, research and collaboration with different university departments and other national and international institutions.
Qualifications:
- candidates should hold a Ph.D. in architecture/urban studies
- experience in teaching history and theories of architecture should be demonstrated
- capability of leading design studio is required
- practical experience in the field of architecture and urban design is highly appreciated
- the language of teaching is English
