Gibson Thornley has a vacancy for a Part 2 architectural assistant to join its team in London.

We are looking for a Part 2 architectural assistant to work on projects across a variety of sectors. Our current projects include the refurbishment of listed buildings, cultural buildings, office retrofits, new build life sciences and schools.

The intended start date is March-April 2024.

Role and responsibilities

Part 2 architectural assistants will contribute to the design of buildings, other structures and interiors, and the delivery of projects across all RIBA work stages. You will typically be expected to work as part of a project team; researching and developing architectural and technical solutions, working with BIM, generating CAD drawings and schedules, compiling reports and producing visualisations.

Dependant on experience, Part 2 architectural assistants will contribute to the running of projects with their project architect and actively participate in the day-to-day of a project, communicating with consultants and coordinating their information. You will be responsible for ensuring that the studio’s ethos and procedures are embedded into your work.

Skills and qualification

We require that you have completed your RIBA Part 2 qualification, or overseas equivalent and have the right to work in the UK.

Required skills are listed below:

  • basic knowledge of all project work stages
  • practice experience in Revit, and Enscape preferably
  • adept in Adobe Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop)
  • well-versed across the Microsoft Office Suite
  • clear and effective design, presentational and report writing skills
  • articulate and excellent written and spoken English
  • rigorous approach to design
  • excellent visual and graphic presentation skills
  • working understanding of detailing and the delivery of projects
  • well-organised with a proactive attitude and innovative mindset
  • able to work well both as part of a team or autonomously
  • UK architectural practice experience preferred
  • working knowledge of the planning process, Building Regulations and British Standards

Experience:

  • preferably at least one year’s experience in a UK architectural practice or other relevant place of work post-RIBA Part 2 (or equivalent overseas qualification)
  • at least one year’s experience as a Part 1 architectural assistant in a UK practice or other relevant place of work essential
