Graduate/junior urban designer

HTA Design has an opportunity for a graduate/junior urban designer to join its team in London.
Contract: permanent
Salary: £25,000 to £32,000 (depending on experience)

The graduate/junior urban designer will contribute to the design and planning of sustainable, functional and aesthetically pleasing urban environments. The role will involve developing urban design strategies, creating visual materials and ensuring that projects align with local and national planning policies.
The successful candidate will work on a diverse range of projects, including
strategic visions, masterplans, feasibility studies and the production of parameter plans and design codes for planning applications. Additional responsibilities include contributing to planning, research and design for town centre regeneration, capacity studies, characterisation, tall building and visual impact assessments and assisting with public consultations and stakeholder engagement.

To be considered for the role, the successful candidate will have:
- relevant undergraduate or postgraduate degree in urban design, planning, architecture or equivalent architectural related degree
- some experience working on medium to large-scale urban or suburban housing design and master planning projects would be highly beneficial
- an understanding of urban design best practice and UK planning policy
- some experience of survey and analysis of sites, preparation of base plans and supporting material required for urban design and master planning work is desirable
- strong visual and graphic design skills with proficiency in all or some of the following software packages: AutoCAD, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator) and GIS tools
- displays confidence in employing a range of hand drawn and technical drawing skills to a good level
- able to use various computer software programmes including but not limited to: MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, Affinity, SketchUp to create supporting materials
- ability to carry out research and analyse urban environments, design trends and planning policies
- strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build and maintain strong collaborative internal and external working relationships
- good attention to detail with the ability to apply creative thought and energy to a range of projects
