We have an excellent opportunity for a motivated technical designer to join our team on a permanent full-time basis. Job description

This is very much a design role that requires creative flair and technical skill. We work for a wide variety of private clients, high-end contractors and interior design clients and our briefs are generally to turn their concept images and drawings into cost-effective reality, using our creativity and technical knowledge in new and innovative ways. Our technical design team work closely with our sales designers to produce shop drawings and specifications for both customer concept sign-off and production. Our sales designers handle sampling, concept design and client management, with our technical design team producing the detailed drawings for sign-off, production and installation.

Duties will include:

  • to work alongside a team of three other in-house technical designers
  • to assist a team of sales and concept designers with technical advice and work together to detail highly bespoke items, working primarily in partnership with one of the concept sales teams
  • to translate concept drawings/visuals into shop drawings for manufacture and concept sign-off, principally using Solidworks/ SWOOD
  • to produce drawings to the appropriate level of detail (including specialist materials) for manufacture and to be used on-site during installation
  • to ensure deadlines are met and designs are produced efficiently
  • to work with the sales designers to produce detailed specifications for procurement, manufacture and client sign-off

Experience required:

  • previous experience in joinery, furniture design or manufacturing-based roles, or furniture design degree or equivalent is preferable
  • excellent planning, organisation and communication skills
  • a thorough approach and attention to detail
  • understanding of joinery production and workshop tooling
  • proficiency in the use of Solidworks and SWOOD is desirable
  • some experience with other software packages is beneficial: SketchUp, AutoCAD and Microsoft Office (Microsoft Excel, Word, etc)
  • commercial awareness and time-management skills
  • ability to work on multiple projects concurrently
  • positive working attitude

  • willingness to learn and continually develop skills

Reports to: technical design manager
Salary: negotiable depending on experience
