Process engineer

Joseph Walsh Studio is seeking a process engineer to join its team in Cork, Ireland.

Working on site, and closely with the workshop and design studio teams, the successful candidate will have the following responsibilities:

  • analysing current manufacturing processes and identifying areas for improvement in efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness
  • developing and implementing innovative solutions to enhance workflow, minimise waste, and optimise resource utilisation
  • developing a new material laboratory
  • collaboration with production teams with a view to streamlining operations and standardising procedures
  • designing and implementing quality control measures to ensure consistent output and adherence to specifications
  • conducting regular assessments of equipment performance and recommending maintenance or upgrades as needed
  • providing training and support to staff on new processes and technologies
  • remaining up to date on industry trends and advancements with a view to continuously improving production methods

The ideal candidate will:

  • have a bachelor’s degree in engineering, preferably in mechanical, industrial or manufacturing engineering
  • have proven experience in process engineering within a manufacturing environment, preferably in woodworking or a comparable environment
  • have strong analytical skills and the ability to identify inefficiencies and develop effective solutions
  • have proficiency in CAD/CAM software and other relevant engineering tools with the potential to further develop their skills
  • have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams
  • detail-oriented mindset with a focus on quality and continuous improvement
  • be highly organised, have the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritise tasks efficiently and achieve deadlines
  • have a good knowledge of safety regulations and best practice in a workshop setting
  • be interested in the relationship between economics and research/process development
  • be enthusiastic and open to learning new skills
  • have a full clean driving licence essential
