Kleindienst Group has a vacancy for a senior or lead interior designer with European visa to join its team in Dubai, UAE.
Job purpose
A senior interior designer can work on any/all phases of development including pre-design, schematic design, design development, construction documents and construction administration. They report to the job captain or project manager on tasks and deliverables and work directly with him/her to ensure the facilitation of a project’s completion; on-time, on/under-budget, and meets DDA’s quality standards.
Job responsibilities:
- confer with client to determine factors affecting planning interior environments, such as budget, architectural preferences and purpose and function
- advise client on interior design factors such as space planning, layout and utilisation of furnishings or equipment, and colour coordination
- coordinate with other professionals, such as contractors, architects, engineers, and plumbers, to ensure job success
- review and detail shop drawings for construction plans
- estimate material requirements and costs, and present design to client for approval
- subcontract fabrication, installation, and arrangement of carpeting, fixtures, accessories, draperies, paint and wall coverings, art work, furniture and related items
- formulate environmental plan to be practical, esthetical and conducive to intended purposes, such as raising productivity or selling merchandise
- select or design, and purchase furnishings, art works and accessories
- render design ideas in form of paste-ups or drawings
FEC/HR/confidential:
- use computer-aided drafting (CAD) and related software to produce construction documents
- plan and design interior environments for boats, planes, buses, trains, and other enclosed spaces
- consistently bringing great, fresh ideas to the team that are project appropriate, captures the look and attitude and articulates why they feel it meets the needs
- knows how to develop vignettes and hand sketches of architectural and FF&E ideas that work in the space and meet intended design goals
- has a well-developed eye for scale and balance, designing elements that fit the space for maximum impact
- can readily capture the intended look and attitude that reflects branding and positioning; with architecture, colour, finish materials, FF&E – and articulates “why concepts work” to the team using a sound, logical reasoning
- can differentiate the needs of different styles and looks, and deliver those styles without letting personal preferences impact choices
- designs ‘around corners’ not just major areas – so spaces flow consistently, areas tie together for maximum impact and secondary focal points are established and used to build upon the underlying story and attitude
- regularly follows trends in hotels, architecture and interior design so that own work and ideas are of an international caliber as well as sophistication level
- follows trends in hospitality so they can incorporate the latest technology and operational needs by reading trade magazines
- is highly skilled in lighting as a design element, knows how to use lighting and shadows for drama and impact. Regularly follows lighting magazines to watch for new trends and applications and fixtures. Introduces new ideas and approaches in concepts
Implementation/project production team member:
- ensures that s/he is working at maximum quality and efficiency for his/her assigned tasks and deliverables; maintains billable efficiency rate of 80%
- accepts and performs responsibility for redlines of delegated work and/or a complete package of deliverables (e.g. a guest room set), as may have been assigned based on his/her level of knowledge and expertise
- maintains a daily task list for assigned projects discussing time allotments and schedules, and delegations
- assists project teams to insure delays are adequately documented
- prepares for regular project team meetings pertaining to project tasks, deliverables, and milestones
- actively produces/outputs high-level tasks and deliverables on multiple projects
Qualification and experience
Bachelor of interior design or equivalent with minimum ten to 15 years of experience in relevant field.
