Architect/bridge designer/Part 2 architectural assistant

Knight Architects is seeking an architect/bridge designer/Part 2 architectural assistant to join its practice in London or Maidenhead, UK.

Knight Architects is a specialist mid-size design studio based in central London and Maidenhead Riverside. We work on extraordinary bridge and civil infrastructure projects across the globe, combining architecture, engineering and urban design skills together in a single workspace.

Key responsibilities:

  • work as part of a team internally and with other consultants, contributing to the design, communication and delivery of infrastructure projects
  • depending on the experience and skills, lead the firm’s contribution to projects or lead packages of work, in both cases with the support of others
  • create 3D models, produce sketches, diagrams, renders, plans and documents or 3D print
  • be responsible for, or contribute to, client liaisons and presentations to the public and stakeholders
  • develop yourself professionally in the field of bridge and infrastructure design, through working with some of the most renowned experts

Skills and experience:

  • university degree with at least a Part 2 architecture qualification (or equivalent) or an engineering qualification with relevant experience in the design of bridges
  • proven professional experience in a design or architecture practice as part of a design team, with excellent design skills, technical detailing skills and experience delivering drawing packages
  • demonstrable awareness and passion for bridge and infrastructure architecture and design in the public realm
  • enthusiasm for spoken, written and visual communication of design
  • confidence in leading a project, a design or work packages within a project, including managing other people
  • capacity to understand work schedules and how to deliver them to deadlines
  • high motivation and enthusiasm, using initiative to develop tasks with senior support
  • capacity to successfully work on several projects simultaneously
  • excellent client interface skills
  • proven 3D modelling skills; Rhino and Grasshopper experience preferable
  • proficient in Adobe Photoshop and InDesign
  • experience in civil infrastructure, transport, aviation, railway at RIBA Stages 0-7 (plus HOAI) advantageous
  • proficiency in German (both verbal & written communication) advantageous

  • permanent, full-time position in the UK
