About the Wilson School of Design
Located in KPU Richmond, the recently opened 4,900 m2 purpose-built facility includes innovative teaching studios and labs, a testing centre, gallery space and expanded study and design spaces for students. It also houses advanced technology, such as laser cutters, 3D printers and ultrasonic welders. We create partnerships to boldly provoke progress by researching, innovating and transforming the world through design.
The school provides a collaborative space for a range of design programs including bachelor degrees in product design, interior design, fashion design and technology, graphic design for marketing, post-baccalaureate diploma in technical apparel design, fashion marketing diploma and foundations in design certificate.

KPU is seeking a dean for the globally recognised and award-winning Wilson School of Design. The dean will lead a team of motivated faculty who are the backbone of the school and are passionate about inspiring and guiding the designers of tomorrow whose impact will lead to a more positive, sustainable world. KPU is looking for an inspirational leader who is courageous, rigorous, empowering, approachable, collaborative and smart (visit our website to view the executive profile for this position). This role reports to the provost and VP academic. Reporting directly to this position are the design faculty and the divisional business manager.
This role includes long-term strategic planning, academic development and the collaborative management of the school’s financial, administrative and human resources. The dean plays a major role in encouraging relationships between KPU, the external community and relevant industries. The dean also has a commitment to academic excellence and to advance the quality and content of programs, research and scholarship, courses, initiatives and the student learning experience. The dean fosters and encourages collaboration to explore and innovate design-related problems utilising our faculty’s expertise and students’ enthusiasm.
What education and experience should you have?
- a PhD or a terminal degree in a related discipline is preferred
- masters degree from a recognised university in a relevant discipline required
- five or more years of relevant leadership experience accompanied by a minimum of five years of faculty experience preferably within a university environment
- breadth of design experience and appreciation of the diversity of the disciplines in design relevant to the Wilson School of Design
- experience working in an unionised academic environment
- a broad understanding of higher education issues within post-secondary education
