The school offers courses across a broad range of subject areas: art (encompassing fine art, photography, English, creative writing, theatre and performance practice), architecture (including spatial planning and urban design) and design, which includes 3D design (fashion, textiles, furniture & product and jewellery), interiors and visual communication.
About the role
The postholder will have a significant professional profile in practice as a furniture and product designer, and a track record of successful teaching, research and knowledge exchange in an HE environment. The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate exceptional abilities in the use and teaching of a range of the technologies associated with design for furniture and products, both analogue and digital, and must be able to safely operate a range of industrial production equipment.
Evidence of successful, innovative and inclusive employment-focused teaching practice is required, and experience of remote delivery for practical skills will be desirable. Inclusive teaching practice and the pastoral care of our students will be a key part of the postholder’s duties and knowledge of what this entails is required. The school and this course actively promote the value of diversity: the postholder will be committed to the university’s education for social justice framework and will challenge established ideas of what the discipline encompasses, and the range of influences and practices that bear on the subject and how it is taught and learned.
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate ability and commitment to working and leading effectively as part of a team, and of dealing effectively with HE administrative, quality and course management duties. The ability to self-manage and prioritise effectively, dealing with contingencies as they arise is essential.
