Product design associate
at Maiden Home
Maiden Home is hiring a product design associate to join its team in New York.
Responsibilities:
- report to the product design senior manager to design and develop new products for lighting, outdoor and/or existing furniture categories
- document designs through sketches, 3D rendered iterations and design-level 2D CAD drawings
- contribute creatively to conversations regarding Maiden Home’s expanding palette of materiality, construction techniques and value engineering
- facilitate the quoting and sampling process in a timely, organized manner according to the product development calendar, allowing us to efficiently launch new products throughout the year
- provide clear and concise technical feedback to our manufacturing partners, including detailed review of product prototypes, shop drawings and production progress photos as needed
- work alongside the product team in recording and tracking our product assortment in our database
- be a key advocate for the elevation of our product’s quality and design standard
Qualifications:
- at least three to five years’ tenure in domestic or international furniture design or industrial design role; accustomed to working with creative direction and designing several pieces in tandem
- experience with lighting, outdoor and/or textiles is required
- experience in either home retail, boutique commercial furnishings manufacturing organization or interior design firm; furniture start-up experience is a plus
- strong knowledge of furniture design, construction and materiality through the lens of production
- ability to iterate ideas in 3D by building and rendering realistic 3D models using Keyshot, Blender or 3D Max
- advanced knowledge of AutoCAD and Rhino; ability to construct a set of detailed 2D furniture construction drawings
- ability to critically review furniture shop drawings received from manufacturing partners
- deeply knowledgeable about design history as well as what’s new and what’s next
- working knowledge of data management or PLM systems such as Fohlio, Spexx and Specsources is considered a notable asset
- proficiency in Excel, Microsoft Office and Google Suite is required
- excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
- strong attention to detail, a “can-do” attitude and the ability to consistently take initiative, demonstrating relentless follow-through in a startup environment
- high energy, a healthy dose of tenacity and a collaborative spirit
