Makower Architects has an opportunity for a design manager to join its team remotely.
Makower Architects is seeking an experienced design manager to join our dynamic team and take the lead on a landmark mixed-use master plan of significant scale and ambition. This transformative project, currently in the planning stages, aims to redefine urban living by creating a vibrant, sustainable community. The role provides an exciting opportunity to work on the detailed design and delivery of more than 10 residential blocks, alongside a team of international collaborators.
Role overview
As a design manager, you will be the driving force behind project success, managing client engagement, contract compliance and team integration. You will lead the project through the design and delivery phases, ensuring a seamless process that meets the highest standards of design quality, timelines and budget.
Key responsibilities:
- serve as the main client liaison, alongside the project director and lead design architects, ensuring clear communication and satisfaction throughout the project lifecycle
- manage internal and external project processes, building efficient teams and mentoring junior staff to ensure the highest level of design and client satisfaction
- develop and oversee detailed design programmes with all relevant parties to satisfy design, procurement and construction requirements
- support the lead architects in setting critical design paths, deliverables and coordination sequencing/freeze dates
- ensure designs comply with statutory requirements and industry standards
- review designs for completeness, buildability and quality assurance while addressing issues such as lead time, scope packaging, programming and resource streamlining in conjunction with the project team
- lead cross-functional project teams to ensure clarity of requirements, deliverables, timelines and visibility against fees throughout the project life cycle
- prepare, communicate and monitor project work plans, budgets and deliverables for client and internal teams
- oversee proposals, contracts, and consultant agreements, ensuring compliance and alignment
- manage RFIs and NCR processes, and resolve project challenges effectively
- contribute to project reports, staffing meetings and studio financial objectives
- take ownership of problems and execute successful resolution planning in consultation with the design leadership
- review internal project accounting documents and process draft project billing
- document the project story with the design director and project team as required
- develop and nurture strong relationships with existing clients while supporting new business opportunities
- prepare detailed weekly and monthly project reports for clients, tracking progress, detail deliverables and risk management
- international project role may require some Sunday working
Qualifications and experience:
- minimum of five years of Design Management experience, preferably in architecture
- strong leadership, organisational, and communication skills
- proven ability to manage consultant teams and resolve complex technical and design challenges
- expertise in programming, space planning, and knowledge of building codes
- strong knowledge of Oracle Primavera P6 Software.
- proficiency in Revit is highly desirable
- experience with client service and account leadership in a fast-paced environment
- high level of design competence
