Material Index is looking for an architect/engineer for material audit role to join its team in London.

The role

Material Index is growing the material audit team. The ideal candidate will have expertise in building structures, construction, a focus on sustainability and project management skills and a passion for reuse.

The role will involve:

  • reviewing technical drawings and documentation
  • reuse consultancy, materials research
  • data collection and analysis
  • client and project management
  • design team presentations
  • developing supply chain and client relationships
  • business development
  • digital product testing and development
  • site-based surveying (UK wide)

Desirable skills:

  • a diverse software skill set including Revit, BIM
  • knowledge of UK based construction methodology, historical and current knowledge of structural reuse
  • good verbal presentation skills
  • data visualisation and graphic design

We would be a good fit if you have at least two of the following interests:

  • structural design/engineering, circularity, current and historic construction
  • technologies, built environment sustainability, built environment digital technology

About Material Index

Our vision is for a circular construction industry where building materials and components are reused at scale. The team consists of architects, engineers and software developers working in close proximity in a collaborative, fast-moving and stimulating studio environment. We offer services in material audits and materials brokering, supported by our end-to-end proprietary digital platform, which is available to third parties under licence.

About the audit team

The Material Audit Team all have a built environment background and make up roughly a third of the business. We use the Material Index proprietary app to catalogue buildings prior to deconstruction, then work with design and project teams through the concept and planning phases of projects. We complete in-depth material analysis to help projects meet ambitious project reuse targets.

We are looking for someone with a structural background to join the team and help develop our structural calculation methodology and increase our knowledge of structural reuse opportunities. The right candidate will have an understanding of the technical elements of construction and be able to undertake a deep reading of a building’s material anatomy using either good working knowledge of or interest in material properties, fabrication and performance.
