Junior architect/architectural assistant
at Material Works Architecture

Material Works Architecture is looking for a junior architect/architectural assistant to join its team in London.

Applicants must be creative designers and excited by the opportunity to work with an ambitious new practice.

The practice

Material Works Architecture was established in 2018 to deliver architecture that is practical, imaginative, flexible and surprising. We have quickly developed a portfolio of work ranging from large-scale new build schemes through to workspace fit-outs and private residential commissions. We aim to grow organically in the years to come into an inclusive and supportive team – a place for talented designers to flourish.

Key responsibilities:

  • designing and delivering built projects to the highest quality through all stages
  • driving project design development using physical models, CAD models, sketching and regular design reviews
  • working closely with the practice director to ensure a coherent design approach is applied across all aspects of the project
  • assisting in project resourcing and time management
  • liaising with clients, design teams and contractors

Experience and knowledge

We are open to applicants either recently graduated or with up to three years’ experience to fill a variety of roles.

Attention will be focused on the following:

  • experience producing design presentation documents
  • experience producing construction information and working ‘on site’ preferable
  • experience producing and submitting planning applications within the UK preferable
  • experience working within larger design teams
  • excellent spoken and written English
  • good knowledge of UK procurement and contract arrangements
  • strong technical expertise and knowledge of current construction methods

Technical skills:

  • excellent design skills
  • construction detailing
  • excellent coordination and organisational skills
  • software: Vectorworks (2D/ 3D) essential, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite, MS Office, Rhino
  • 3D modelling
