Senior urban designer/planner

Naga Architects is hiring a senior urban designer/planner to join its team in Dubai.

A senior urban planner in a team lead position not only engages in the technical aspects of urban planning but also takes on leadership responsibilities, guiding and mentoring a team of planners and other professionals.

Key responsibilities:

  • contribute to the design and delivery of a variety of projects often happening concurrently
  • take ownership of medium to large scale design and production packages under the supervision of the design/project director
  • organise and graphically develop client presentations
  • work within agreed design standards and parameters with senior staff
  • ensure the quality of deliverables meet the expectations of senior staff
  • use Autodesk Revit tools to present design and engineering solutions.
    Communicate effectively at all levels to support collaborative work practices and achievement of team goals
  • manage own continuous development and support the development of colleagues

Project leadership:

  • oversee multiple urban planning projects from conception through execution, ensuring that all phases meet regulatory standards and community needs
  • coordinate activities between different teams, including landscape architects, engineers, and environmental specialists

Team management:

  • mentor junior planners, providing guidance on best practices in urban planning, project management, and community engagement
  • facilitate team meetings, encouraging collaboration and input from all members to foster a productive work environment

Stakeholder engagement:

  • act as the primary point of contact for stakeholders, including governmental agencies, community groups, and private developers
  • lead public outreach efforts, presenting plans and proposals to the community and addressing any concerns or feedback

Strategic planning:

  • contribute to the development of long-term strategic plans for urban development, focusing on sustainability, transportation, and land use
  • analyze data and trends to inform planning decisions and adapt strategies as necessary

Regulatory compliance:

  • ensure all planning activities comply with local, state, and federal regulations, including zoning laws and environmental policies
  • prepare documentation and reports for regulatory approvals and public meetings

Job requirements:

  • minimum bachelor’s degree in urban design, urban planning landscape architecture, or related field and preferably with a professional affiliation (or eligible for membership)
  • minimum 10 years’ experience in urban design, urban planning, and master planning
  • proficiency Design software (Photoshop, InDesign, 3DS Max, Sketch Up, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office and Revit)
  • ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
  • multi-tasking and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks
