NLA is seeking a highly motivated project manager to join its team in London.
This is an exciting opportunity to be part of our innovative and enterprising programme team. You will play a crucial role in delivering diverse projects that represent NLA and London’s vibrant built environment community, from design competitions, commissions, workshops and awards schemes.

NLA is London’s built environment community; an independent, purpose-led membership organisation for everyone with an interest in London’s built environment. NLA’s programme engages the broadest possible audience from professionals and politicians to Londoners and international visitors, to educate, challenge and create positive change.
Covering topics from public realm and workplaces to housing and transport, NLA’s diverse range of projects and events connects London’s network of built environment professionals across both private and public sectors, uniting the industry to shape a better city.
About the role
The Project Manager will be responsible for the project management of key projects and programmes, including major design competitions and awards programmes as well as content linked with competitions, events, research, exhibitions, and publications. This role is critical to our business, ensuring all programmes align with the New London Agenda and meet the needs of our members.
In collaboration with the Head of Collaborate and the Director of the London Festival of Architecture, you will manage design competitions for NLA Collaborate and the London Festival of Architecture, from inception to delivery. Additionally, you will work with the Head of Programme, NLA, to manage our awards schemes, including the New London Awards and Don’t Move, Improve!
Terms
Hours: full-time, 40 hours per week between 9.00am to 6.00pm. Flexible working from our City of London office, The London Centre (our public gallery) and from home/location of your choice.
Salary: £32,000 – £34,000 (depending on experience)
Location: NLA’s office’s City of London, EC1V (Gresham Street and The London Centre, Guildhall)

Main duties and responsibilities:
- work with the Head of Collaborate and Director of LFA to develop the strategy for NLA Collaborate, including bringing in new competitions and commissions and exploring additional projects such as design charrettes and co-design workshops
- lead the project management of NLA Collaborate and LFA design competitions. Responsibilities include managing competition briefings, timelines, and budgets; administering entries; coordinating judging panels; and maintaining communications with entrants
- work with winning teams and clients on project delivery, including design development, permissions, legal processes, installs and deinstalls. Ensuring legacy of temporary projects
- oversee the New London Awards and Don’t Move, Improve! This includes managing timelines, briefings, and budgets; leading project teams; organising related events; and supporting the communications, events, and client relations teams to deliver our award schemes
- work with the head of programme, NLA, on managing and delivering allocated events, research, publications, and exhibitions as applicable (remove or move down)
- collaborate with the client relations team to understand our membership and drive its growth. Develop and maintain relationships with clients to produce project briefs for design competitions and wider engagement projects, which may include organising guided site tours for shortlisted practices and local stakeholders, community consultation events, or temporary exhibitions
- work with the communications team to ensure content for the website, mailers, and social media is up-to-date and delivered on time. Support the comms team with the necessary content to develop communications plans for each competition and award scheme
- assist the Events team with the logistics of delivering related events
- provide line management for a Programme Coordinator, including overseeing their daily activities, offering guidance and support, ongoing performance management, and collaborating on their development

You have strong, proven experience in project management, whether as part of a team or as a self-starter. You are deeply interested in the key issues influencing London’s built environment industry and their impact on people and places across the city. You share our team’s core values by consistently being informed, rigorous, collaborative and responsive in everything you do.
Essential skills and experience
- strong knowledge and interest in architecture, planning, and design in London, supported by a graduate or postgraduate qualification in architecture or a related field
- proven ability to manage and deliver build projects, competitions, and awards simultaneously
- precision and great attention to detail, coupled with exceptional communication, time management and problem-solving skills
- enthusiasm and willingness to undertake additional tasks, work on fast-paced projects and proactively manage opportunities and risks
- advanced computer skills, including proficiency in Office 365 (Teams), Zealous, Cognito, Adobe Creative Suite, and Zoom. Experience with Apple Mac OS is desirable
- good interpersonal skills, a professional telephone manner and an excellent standard of English
Please note that some of NLA’s events are hosted in the early mornings or into the evenings, with some events/projects taking place on weekends during the London Festival of Architecture, so the ability to be flexible around event/project days is essential.
