Our international team of creative professionals is looking for a model maker who can help us develop and fabricate beautiful, sustainable products that create an impact by utilising the latest and emerging technologies. You will be part of our multidisciplinary team consisting of architects, computational designers, developers, animators, engineers and designers.
We are looking for someone who is able to think outside the box, has an eye for detail and enjoys perfection in their work. You should be committed to your work, a fantastic team player and have a great understanding of aesthetics and detail
Responsibilities:
- discuss the requirements – the brief – with our designers, engineers or the client
- look at and understand plans and technical drawings
- use freehand drawing skills or computer-aided design (CAD) to illustrate initial ideas
- consult with our designers and engineers and make changes to the design before you make the model
- use a range of hand, power and machine tools and computerised equipment to make models
- use electronics or mechanical methods to make working models with moving parts
- give the objects a professional finish using methods such as painting, polishing or upholstering
- consult with external service providers for stuff that’s not possible in-house
- keep the workshop orderly and tools and materials in stock
- find and propose opportunities to make our model-building capabilities more able, more efficient and more professional while keeping the processes in accordance to general health and work safety requirements
- work closely with our designers, engineers, and project manager to ensure project completion within time and budget
- promote the philosophy, values, and beliefs of the company
You’d use a wide range of materials like metal, wood, plastic, clay, card, resin and plaster to create your models.
Our in-house manufacturing capabilities cover large-scale 3D-printers, laser cutters and CNC routers, a broad range of hand and power tools as well as metal working equipment.
Essential:
- degree/ qualification in industrial model-making
- at least two years’ practical work experience
- excellent model-making abilities from construction to finish
- comprehensive understanding of materials, surface finishing techniques
- knowledge in using digital prototyping and manufacturing tools such as 3D- Printing, laser cutting and CNC milling
- good knowledge in using CAD software like Rhinoceros 3D and/or Fusion360
- good knowledge of manufacturing processes, materials and strong mechanical design skills
- must be an idea-driven problem solver
- incredible attention to detail and drive for perfection
- self-starter and ability to work autonomously
- confident and creatively authentic presentation skills
- a collaborative nature and love for working with other creative disciplines
- ability to communicate your ideas clearly
- ability to start working with us ASAP
Desirable:
- knowledge in Grasshopper for Rhino
- experience in transportation design
