NicoleHollis is looking for a senior hospitality interior designer to join its team in San Francisco, USA.

The position of senior hospitality designer contributes to our success by designing and overseeing the schematic design, design development and project management for our hospitality projects. The designer will be expected to recommend a visual representation of the concept and communicate the principal designer’s objectives orally and visually. The designer will be expected to manage all project-related tasks, client meetings and contractor coordination working directly with the principal designer and hospitality studio director, collaborating with fellow studio members, clients, consultants, and artisans. You will generally work from our offices in San Francisco, but may be asked to travel from time to time.

Responsibilities:

  • responsible for the development and realisation of project, start to finish
  • lead team in conceiving of project concept and design to meet client program, NHID standards, local code, and project budget constraints
  • preparing project cost and fee analysis and review project billing
  • ensure on-time delivery of all contract documents
  • coordinate and participate in the preparation of all contract documents including:
    • design presentations
    • mood boards
    • 3D models and views
    • rendered plans, elevations, and views
    • specifications and drawings
    • full set of construction drawings
    • finish, hardware and plumbing selection and specifications
    • FF&E selection
    • custom furniture design and documentation
    • finish boards and/or boxes
    • FF&E binders
  • supervise, develop and mentor designers
  • review in collaboration with hospitality director all documents to ensure they meet design intent, client’s needs and visions, and NHID standards
  • act as liaison between principal/creative director, design director and design team during design process
  • work with design director to review scope, schedule, budget, staffing needs and project milestones
  • represent and manage design coordination between clients and consultants
  • attend site visits and client presentations and coordination meetings
  • present design presentations to clients and consultants
  • lead team in performing field visits/measurements and construction administration services including site visits, responding to RFIs, reviewing control samples and shop drawings, coordinating with consultants, manufacturers, and contractors and completing punch list

Research and development:

  • observe and communicate trends in the hospitality market
  • attend vendor presentations and inform the team of new and innovative products
  • pursue individual professional/skill development
  • contribute to studio development goals
  • attend and represent NicoleHollis at industry events/trade shows as required

Qualifications/skills/qualities:

  • minimum of eight years’ experience in hospitality design or proven skill level
  • strong conceptual design approach
  • comprehensive knowledge of hospitality design standards and an understanding of hospitality operations
  • architecture or interior design degree, accredited minimum four-year program
  • proven organisational abilities and attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple projects across various phases
  • strong experience in management and coordination of construction drawing sets with strong knowledge of construction detailing, materials, methods, and codes
  • strong experience in management and coordination of FF&E specification deliverables/implementation and available vendor/fabricators
  • strong experience in the management and implementation of a design concept in a team environment through completion that is on schedule and meets budget and design intent
  • proficiency in AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, SPEXX, SketchUp, and MS Office
  • is collaborative, self-motivated, positive, and flexible with strong verbal and written communication skills
  • provides inspiration and motivation for hospitality design studio
  • must have excellent customer service skills and be comfortable in interfacing with clients, consultants, vendors and internal staff
  • knowledge of commercial building standards, fire safety codes, ADA codes and applicable codes for textiles, furnishings and finishes
