Senior design manager

Peabody is looking for a senior design manager to join its team in southeast London.

What we’re looking for: 

  • a registered architect (or similar) and a strong advocate for a holistic approach to design and the value it brings
  • a proactive problem solver able to balance competing demands to embed quality at neighbourhood, building and home scales
  • do you have excellent communication and negotiation skills and the ability to work collaboratively with varied clients and stakeholder teams to achieve quality long-term outcomes
  • are you an inquisitive and strategic thinker – challenging yourself and your team to find innovative solutions to complex situations
  • do you have an appreciation of the relationship between strategy and detail and understand time, cost and risk factors to influence overall design quality

Here at Peabody, we have an opportunity for a senior design manager on a permanent and full-time basis at our Westminster Bridge Road office.

About the role

As a senior design manager, you will be a passionate advocate for high-quality design. As a proactive co-driver to the project lead you will lead the design responsibility for a portfolio of projects, from inception to use. Developing, and implementing ways of working to support the delivery of great homes and neighbourhoods. You will take a holistic view of design, bringing together strategic and qualitative ambitions with technical requirements to ensure our homes are safe, sustainable, inclusive, desirable and viable.

Some of the key results for the role include:

  • uphold Peabody’s ethos of quality, longevity and customer-centric homes and neighbourhoods through the delivery of high-quality design
  • take ownership and provide direction for the project lead and broader team in brief writing and procuring, appointing and managing external professional consultants and contractors to ensure successful project delivery
  • provide design direction, working closely with project leads to balance competing priorities, drive value and deliver quality across RIBA stages
  • identify and manage risk in the design, planning, tendering, procurement, contract formation and change control of schemes and projects
  • ensure adherence to Peabody’s design standards and procedures and manage the change control process
  • work proactively with internal stakeholders to ensure alignment on ambition and intent and deliver homes and spaces that are fit for purpose
  • manage and coordinate project-specific all of Peabody’s design review forums and governance gateways
  • support a culture of continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to evolve our ways of working at both a project and programme level

A minimum of one to two days working in the Westminster Bridge Road office is required.
