Who we are
We are a design and build architect-led business, who specialise in home improvement works pre-dominantly for the north and east London private residential market. Our designs and our builds are award winning. We work from our office near Brick Lane, Shoreditch. We love refining, iterating, innovating and delivering magical homes for people to wake up in. We leave the world a better place than how we found it. We do a small amount of commercial development work too, but focus on residential.
The situation
You would join us to be a project architect, a build project manager (once experienced enough) and generally to be a team member to pull the company forward in a shared direction. We are currently five architects in the practice and are looking for a sixth. We have one director and one associate at present in the architecture company, and the same sole director of the construction company.
Who we are looking for
We are a group of high achievers, hard workers and we are special swiss army knives. A full time talented qualified architect, with rounded experience in design and construction. We’re predominantly keen to speak to architects with a range of zero to five years experience in private residential design in England or better yet in London. We are looking for someone keen to grow their expertise in private residential architecture, and expand their experience beyond the traditional architect role toward construction and project management.
What are your architect responsibilities?
You will be required to carry out all reasonable architectural duties within the practice. There is space to grow and have a long and fun career with us, accrue benefits and ultimately steer the business.
Initial responsibilities would include, for example:
- 90 per cent domestic renovation/extension/retrofit projects, either from Stage 2 or later as project lead
- 10 per cent commercial residential extension/development projects, either from Stage 2 or later as project lead
The minimum requirements to be demonstrated:
- ARB Registered
- at least in one university degree a good or above grade: e.g. distinction, merit, 1st, 2:1. Arguments in the absence of hitting this mark will be heard
- private residential and/or <10 units resi development experience in RIBA Stages 2 to 5
- particularly good communication and presentation skills – in such a way that you inspire others
- be proactive, someone who generates and shares knowledge, not someone reactive who sits waiting expectantly
- ability to lead single individuals and have them feel empowered and grow
- be a good fit with our current teams: polite, passionate, intelligent, proactive
- be coachable, and be a great coach
- be hardworking, honourable, and loyal to your team and company
The preferable situation:
- experience working with Vectorworks, or a willingness to train with our resources in your own time
- sustainable practice or study experience, e.g. Retrofit
- MacOS fluent
- Google Drive fluent, especially Google Sheets or Excel
- have been project lead architect on a private residential project
- have experience coordinating and leading a design team (even if just a team of two)
- have a love of maths and spreadsheets
- has no more than one month notice period with any current employer or obligation
- able to work from our current studio, 6 Links Yard, London, E1 5LX, 9am – 6pm, five days a week, although we have a flexible working policy and a whole studio WFH policy currently working from home on Fridays
- preferable if you have less than 45 minutes commute by your preferred means
- mature beyond your years and you excel in knowing yourself
As part of our commitment to building a collaborative and values-aligned team, shortlisted candidates will be asked to complete a 15 minute psychometric questionnaire before any first interview. By applying you are agreeing to do this.
The hiring process:
- you apply via the Monday.com form only
- we create a longlist and we email everyone
- the longlist candidates fill out psychometric questionnaire
- longlist video call interviews
- shortlist in-person interviews
- job offered, accepted (hopefully!) and all notified
How to apply:
- fill out Monday form via the apply for job button below
- we will email you
- we plan to work fairly fast to fill this role, so that we can launch our website sooner rather than later. We’re not in a rush, but time matters
- only shortlisted candidates will have feedback from us
- as a way of respecting your precious time, we’ll keep longlisting questions simple and short and only ask you to invest more in this application if you’re longlisted or shortlisted
