Who we are

We are a design and build architect-led business, who specialise in home improvement works pre-dominantly for the north and east London private residential market. Our designs and our builds are award winning. We work from our office near Brick Lane, Shoreditch.

The situation

You would join us to prepare and launch a new phase in our business. We have a new website that has been designed and prepared – it is ready to be tweaked and filled; we want to establish our tones of voice, our authority and expertise in the home improvement world, and want to be the go-to source for answering home improvement questions in North and East London. The role will start heavily geared toward content strategy and creation culminating in the launch of our new website within approx four weeks of the role being filled, and then the role will mellow into a long-term marketing and content manager.

The role

We are looking for a special swiss army knife, centered on developing our exciting growing business.

This person won’t just ‘do the job’ but will amplify the culture of Pencil and Brick and be a steadying presence as we scale. The successful candidate will be versatile, a keen professional who will predominantly take charge of our content marketing production and publication, who can manage our website and instagram, who will coordinate our sales inquiries and extract business intelligence insights from collected data. Ideally the candidate will show experience with the private residential / architectural home improvement market, with marketing content creation, with SEO performance and a keen attraction to data insights, analytics, management and creating-then-delivering marketing and business development strategies off the back of this data.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for an experienced content marketing professional with advanced English writing skills to join us. The ideal candidate will have extensive demonstrable skills in the world of SEO, copywriting, interviewing, being proactive, being exceptional at accuracy, and having a keen understanding of writing for our target audience – 35yo to 55yo homeowners in East and North London wishing to spend £150k to £1m on home improvement works.

The job will predominantly revolve around the new website home-improvement content generation, tracking organic traffic/usage/conversions, driving sales enquiries, and assisting with sales enquiries administration and analytics.

Performance will be measured by:

  • your ability to create strategies, content and activities that identifiably attracts quality architectural project leads
  • the quality and quantity by which you raise our profile with home owners and the industry
  • other successes in supporting our growing business.

Your ideal natural qualities will include:

  • team-focused individual with emotional and social intelligence
  • strength in follow-through, organisation, and perseverance
  • grounded, authentic communicator who can handle a founder-led company
  • strong in self-regulation (measured, not reactive) and adaptable humility
  • appreciates aesthetics and quality, but doesn’t need to always lead
