Role description

The lighting design assistant provides creative, technical, and logistical support across all phases of lighting design and production. Working alongside the design team, you’ll assist with pre-production planning, CAD work, equipment setup, and on-site delivery for high-profile events. This role offers opportunities to grow design skills while gaining hands-on experience in fast-paced project environments.

The role requires full eligibility to work in the UK and must be based in London. You will be expected to work from our King’s Cross office approximately three days per week, with an average of two days worked remotely. This arrangement may vary depending on specific project or on-site requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • create CAD drawings and technical plans using VectorWorks
  • prepare rendering files in Depence/Unreal and support visualisations
  • support the creation of lighting and show designs under direction from the design team
  • set up consoles and studio equipment for programming and visualisation
  • maintain accurate job files, technical documentation, and project specifications
  • assist with pre-production logistics including equipment planning, crew schedules, transport and power specs
  • attend site visits and production meetings; create venue/site CAD layouts
  • provide on-site assistance during project delivery, representing the company professionally
  • keep internal systems updated with client and project information
  • support the booking and coordination of freelance and full-time crew
  • research and report on new technologies and equipment relevant to lighting design
  • assist with marketing efforts, industry events, and client presentations as needed
  • provide general support to the Creative Director and wider team on business activities

Skills:

  • proficient in VectorWorks (intermediate/advanced CAD skills required)
  • strong interest and developing knowledge in lighting design and production
  • knowledge of Adobe Suite and Depence (preferable)
  • good interpersonal skills and confident in client-facing situations
  • technically literate across lighting, audio, video, and rigging equipment
  • well-organised, proactive, and able to work independently under pressure
  • clear written and verbal communicator with attention to detail
  • friendly, positive personality and team-oriented mindset
  • willingness to travel domestically and internationally, often at short notice
  • friving license and own transport is a plus
