Windows systems engineer

RSHP is looking for a Windows systems engineer to join its team in London, UK.

RSHP is an international architectural practice who has designed some of world’s most iconic buildings.

Our portfolio of projects ranges from the renowned Lloyd’s of London building, a new distillery and visitor centre for The Macallan in Speyside, to The Leadenhall Building, an office tower which is home to the practice’s studio.

Currently, we are working on a range of high-profile projects, including our first residential project in New York.

We are seeking a Windows systems engineer to manage and maintain our Windows-based infrastructure, including active directory, SQL databases, and Windows servers.

The role covers server administration, troubleshooting, automation, and security compliance, while supporting IT operations and mentoring junior staff.

Key responsibilities

  • Windows server and active directory: manage Windows servers (2016/2019/2022), active directory, group policies and permissions. Assist in domain migrations and security enhancements
  • SQL database administration: perform routine maintenance, backups, performance monitoring, and troubleshooting
  • security and compliance: apply patches, implement security best practices, manage identity and access controls and conduct audits
  • automation and optimisation: develop powershell scripts and automate workflows to improve system efficiency
  • network and infrastructure support: troubleshoot networking issues (DNS, DHCP, VPN, VLANs, firewalls) and support virtualisation (VMware/Hyper-V)
  • monitoring and performance: Use monitoring tools (e.g., PRTG, SolarWinds) to proactively detect and resolve system issues
  • technical support and documentation: act as escalation point for IT support, maintain documentation, and provide training where needed

Required skills and experience

  • over five years’ experience in Windows server administration
  • expertise in active directory, group policy, and SQL server
  • strong knowledge of powershell scripting and automation
  • familiarity with networking concepts and virtualisation (VMware, Hyper-V)
  • ability to troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues

Preferred qualifications

  • Microsoft certifications (MCSA, MCSE, Azure Administrator)
  • experience with cloud technologies (Azure, AWS)
  • knowledge of security frameworks (ISO27001, Cyber Essentials, NIST)

Hours: Monday to Friday, 9.30am to 6pm
