Studio manager

Sedley Place is seeking a studio manager to join its team in London as maternity cover.

We’re looking for a studio manager with experience in architectural/design-related workplaces to become an integral part of, and provide support to, a busy practice with a studio in Clapham with some members of the team working in Scotland.

We are currently working on a range of private residential and commercial projects.

Responsibilities:

  • overview of projects and the milestones and key deliverables
  • lead weekly progress meetings and status report on current projects
  • act as a central point for the studio, managing communication between team members and clients
  • participate in preparing project costing and resourcing
  • prepare and edit documents, spreadsheets and letters
  • analyse projects and produce reports for board meetings
  • assist project leads with administrative tasks and document control
  • update and maintain project management software Workflowmax
  • maintain client and supplier database
  • produce and issue weekly workload reports
  • monitor time sheets and project resource

Experience

At least three years’ experience studio management role or similar. Familiarity or experience within design and architecture would be beneficial

The successful candidate will have a combination of:

  • a good understanding of the values of a professional services firm
  • prioritisation and time management skills coupled with the ability to work under pressure and to deadlines
  • proactive and able to work on own initiative
  • a flexible and willing approach, along with good time keeping and a commitment to the role
  • proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and with Mac software
  • basic understanding of architecture and design terminology

Organised:

  • an excellent administrator with a natural attention to detail and the ability to check own work accurately
  • take real pride in getting things right
  • good at following things through to completion, with consistency even for mundane tasks

Assertive:

  • has command and authority and listening skills
  • good communication and listening skills
  • an ability to deal with strong personalities and remain calm, firm, open and honest if difficult things need to be said

Accurate:

  • attention to detail and ability to proofread your own work, and others is essential
  • to be responsible for adherence to good written English, and presentation in all documents prepared by the studio

Inquisitive:

  • takes and interest in the works of the practice. Proactive in learning about current and prospective projects and clients

Flexible:

  • able to multi-task and remain calm and well organised
  • a good team worker who will willingly and proactively help other when needed
