Senior designer/project lead

Shaw Studios is looking to recruit a senior designer/project lead to join its London practice.

We deliver high-end commercial fit-out projects, working on the feasibility, concept and delivery of projects with varying requirements and drivers. Our studio is a friendly, creative place to work where all members of the team are encouraged to input into the creative process.

We are looking for candidates who would thrive in a small studio and are seeking the opportunity to expand their own career and be a part of the growth of the business.

We are looking for someone with a passion for great and sustainable design, to deliver projects from brief gathering through to leading the design stages and the build.  To inspire and nurture the junior team with creative design and technical performance.

The successful candidate will have strong connections within the London construction industry and will be an ambassador for Shaw Studios, supporting the business in marketing and project opportunities and pitching.

Key responsibilities:

  • actively involved in winning work through marketing, pitching and client presentations
  • leading project teams, both internally and externally on a range of projects
  • translating a client’s brief into a set of achievable requirements
  • delivering creative concepts to client’s requirements and communicating these through sketches, plans, visuals including directing CGI visualisers
  • ensuring projects are delivered within budgets
  • compiling and coordinating working drawings and specifications and managing the design team to deliver complete and accurate information
  • managing project programmes to meet deadlines
  • leading site meetings and internal studio meetings with clients, suppliers and contractors, also mentoring others to do so, giving them a clear role in meetings

Knowledge and experience:

  • an exciting and relevant portfolio of work with a focus on workplace
  • working knowledge of AutoCAD, Adobe Suite, SketchUp and Microsoft tools
  • detailed knowledge of UK and International FF&E suppliers
  • candidates should have degree-level qualifications in design and ideally five to eight years’ relevant experience
  • communication is key and the role requires fluent spoken and written English
