Brand and business development manager

Simpson Studio is looking for a brand and business development manager to join its team in Edinburgh, Scotland.

Simpson Studio is an award-winning British Design House, with a multidisciplinary team of architects, designers and cabinet makers, creating better space through the complete co-ordination of architecture, interiors, furniture and product design.

With a base in both London and Edinburgh, the studio works on residential and commercial high-end projects across the globe. The studio oversees all design elements in-house, making for a particularly joined up process which delivers beautiful results. The studio also has its own retail line which launched last year and is currently working on its first in-house development project.

As the studio heads towards its tenth year, with big plans for the future, it is now looking for an experienced  brand and business development manager capable of managing all PR and marketing, BD, as well as running the administrative functions of the studio in Edinburgh.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in social media and marketing, preferably within the design industries, and be able to share examples of their content and copy writing experience. The candidate should be hands-on, flexible and reliable with the ability to multi-task and prioritise a varied workload. Strong time management, organisational, and interpersonal skills are essential.

The role will include:

  • running the studio’s social media, journal, and website. Developing and maintaining a content calendar across all social media and digital channels, and reporting on analytics and insights to shape the content strategy
  • organising the studio’s quarterly newsletter
  • managing relations with the press and writing press releases
  • creating and maintaining a marketing calendar and managing the marketing budget
  • organising and overseeing all studio photoshoots, and manage the production of photos and video content from within the team
  • coordinating social activities, parties, and events
  • preparing and managing awards submissions
  • seeking and promoting new business
  • dealing with all incoming project enquiries, tracking new business, and preparing quotations for new clients. Bringing new clients and projects on-board and preparing appointment documents
  • developing relationships with new clients and maintaining relations with other consultants and other organisations.
  • attending monthly management meetings
  • managing office facilities, equipment and supplies
  • answering incoming calls and managing the studio diary
  • welcoming clients and guests, and offering refreshments
  • ensuring the office runs smoothly and is maintained to a high standard

Skills and experience:

  • experience in a similar role
  • organised, pro-active and self-motivated
  • excellent communication skills, combining creativity and strategic thinking, with attention to detail
  • an eye for design, photography, video and animation, and experience with editing images and video
  • excellent spoken and written English, with the ability to maintain a consistent voice and personality across all platforms
  • experienced and confident in liaising with clients
  • understanding of analytics tools (Google Analytics, Facebook Analytics, Instagram Insights) and how these should inform content strategy

Software skills required:

  • confident on Mac computers
  • Microsoft Office and Excel
  • Adobe Creative Suite
  • knowledge of MailChimp, Later and Trello is a bonus, as well as experience using analytics tools and paid social
