Situ Plan has an opportunity for a CAD technician to join its firm in Reading, UK.

The studio

Situ Plan has been established as a specialist strategic planning, landscape design, urban design and architecture consultancy, led by managing director Nick Sweet, former partner at Barton Wilmore.

The team at Situ have a significant reputation and extensive experience in the creation and delivery of projects in the UK, Europe, the Middle East, Asia and America. Landscape-based projects range from strategic master planning on initiatives such as the Al Aredh National Park through to the concept and detailed design of large city parks including King Abdullah International Gardens, streetscapes and public realm such as Dhahiat Sumou and hotels and resorts including the Al Shaqab Hotel.

Our integrated approach, supported by a comprehensive understanding of the full development process, positions the Situ team at the forefront of design thought and the creation of sustainable solutions for the 21st century.

Due to our expansion, we are currently looking for a talented CAD technician to join the team in our Reading studio, located just 25 minutes from London Paddington station and easily accessible from other key hubs by train and car the office is ideally situated in an area that has benefited from significant regeneration.

The role:

  • experience working in the urban planning, landscape architectural sector
  • an understanding of work stages of design process and of construction is advantageous
  • must have excellent all-round technical knowledge and attention to detail in every aspect
  • knowledge in design phases and deliverables and of supporting documentation for construction phases.
  • must be fluent in AutoCAD
  • must have good organisational skills.
  • an ability to comply with best practice CAD standards and protocols.  CAD proficient, full working and detailed drawing packages
  • to be well spoken with a confident phone manner when answering the telephone
  • additional creative flare with Photoshop, 3D modelling (SketchUp) and presentation skills are advantageous
  • ability to setup and manage general office requirements and setup plot styles, title blocks, CAD blocks, layer naming conventions for both architecture and landscape architecture
  • ability to manage all drawing
  • produce drawing sheet temples
  • seed file all annotation data, blocks, scale bars, north-arrows, etc.
  • ability, skillset, and experience to handle multiple sources of drawing data, including from external consultants
  • organise all document filing to ensure the latest data is always current
  • ability to deal with complex terrain data
  • produce legible and aesthetic PDFs and manage and execute all printing outputs

About you:

  • motivate, enthusiastic personality, with the ability to work in teams on multiple tasks within project timelines and crucial deadlines
  • experience and ability to setup projects on the Situ Plan office system and manage all online systems and external portals
  • demonstrate experience in the urban planning, architectural and/or landscape architectural fields
  • relevant university degree or have a strong technical draughtsman background within the landscape architectural sector
  • an understanding and experience of work stages of landscape design
  • development and deliverables and construction industries are advantageous
  • must have excellent all-round technical knowledge and attention to detail in every aspect
  • must have good organisational skills
  • an understanding and ability to comply with CAD standards and protocols
