Smith & Newton Architects is looking for a Part 1 or 2 architectural assistants and architects to join its firm in London.

An award-winning young RIBA chartered practice based in Walthamstow, East London is looking for talented and enthusiastic experienced RIBA architectural assistants and recently qualified architects to work on a range of projects across the UK.

Smith & Newton Architects is a design-led practice with an excellent pedigree and are currently working on both listed and contemporary new build projects in residential, hospitality and commercial sectors.

The ideal candidate will be creative and confident, with a keen eye for detail. They must be a strongly self-motivated designer, able to take initiative as well as working as part of a team. The role would include working closely with both design directors, to assist and contribute throughout the design process. This would include sketching, physical modelling, 3D computer modelling and preparing work for presentations to clients and bidding for prospective jobs. The role also offers excellent opportunities for client interaction, site and project-running experience.

The office works at a high tempo, and on occasion to tight deadlines, candidates must be able to embrace these in a positive manner, working on prestigious projects in a fun and rewarding environment.

Essential skills:

  • excellent communication skills (fluent English both written and spoken are essential)
  • the ability to hand-sketch
  • model-making
  • prior office/work experience
  • MicroStation and/or Revit
  • SketchUp
  • Adobe Creative Suite
  • Microsoft Office

Advantageous skills:

  • demonstrate a good understanding of RIBA work stages
  • understanding of the planning system
  • understanding of construction procurement methods
  • understanding of UK building regulations
  • commercial awareness
