Project designer

SPACE is seeking a project designer to join its team in Hampshire, UK.

We require a project designer (mid-weight to senior level) to work with internal and external stakeholders to provide creative designs in line with client’s brief and budget; build strong working relationships with clients and suppliers. We are looking for a talented and passionate creative to
work within a dynamic team, support line manager, mentor junior designers and contribute to creative innovative brainstorm sessions.

Role and responsibilities

Role:

  • transforming briefs into exciting concepts to ensure prospective clients are suitably impressed and consequently contributing to winning jobs
  • develop initial ideas, research key information and discuss requirements with client and design team
  • develop presentations of design concepts using mood boards imagery, 3D and 2D elements to an advanced level utilising a variety of software design packages in line with client brief and budget
  • produce quality CAD drawings to include in presentations to support concept designs
  • pitch design concepts to client and wider team
  • attend meetings with clients, contractors, manufacturers, suppliers and site
  • survey sites in detail with supporting photographic records and clear dimensions take offs
  • prepare developed briefs for visualisers on projects to produce rendered presentations
  • work closely with project finance team to establish and keep track of costs
  • develop supporting finishes and furniture schedules along with keeping them up to date throughout the project
  • proactiveness in supporting team and line manager in evolving design processes and procedures to ensure efficiency and communication
  • have strong knowledge of new products including finishes, fittings, lighting, furniture, and styling
  • maintain industry knowledge and act as company expert on emerging design trends and cultures and communicating this to the design team and wider group

  • adopting a flexible approach to workload whilst demonstrating a willingness to take on additional work

Role requirements

Qualifications:

  • minimum of six years’ experience working in the industry
  • minimum of two years’ experience working in workplace design and build preferred
  • minimum of bachelor’s degree in interior design or interior architecture (or equivalent experience)
  • proficiency in design software, including Adobe Creative Suite

Experience

Design:

  • strong portfolio showcasing a variety of design work, including both conceptual and technical designs
  • excellent creativity, attention to detail, and visual storytelling skills
  • passion for design, innovation, and creative problem solving
  • proven experience of pitching, creating creative concept design proposals, finishes boards and presentation documents
  • professional and effective verbal and visual presentation skills
  • successful track record in winning tenders including working on preparation and forming part of presentation team
  • excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and externally with clients and supplier chain
  • previous experience of taking briefing documents and research that enable full scheme development
  • strong visual and graphic understanding
  • experience of undertaking building surveys
  • good knowledge of construction drawings, detailed drawings and schedules
  • up to date knowledge of materials and current design trends
  • knowledge of project timescales and phases to ensure effective liaising to keep project on track from start to completion
  • solid understanding of furniture solutions, product knowledge as well as professional contacts with suppliers
  • working knowledge of current Building Regulations and statutory requirements
  • experience of working on projects of 10,000 sq. ft plus within commercial sector
  • full driving license and a willingness to travel as required

Teamwork:

  • ability to work well as an individual, as part of a design (and wider) team, with clients and contractors
  • ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • comfortable managing a hectic and varied workload at times to meet deadlines
  • ability to take initiative in offering support and assistance to the design (and wider) team

Skills and software knowledge:

  • ACAD – essential to a level where no current training is required
  • InDesign – essential to a level where no current training is required
  • Microsoft Office – essential to a level where no current training is required
  • SketchUp – essential to a level where no current training is required
  • Photoshop – essential to a level where no current training is required
  • Illustrator – essential to a level where no current training is required
  • Vectorworks – beneficial
  • ability to hand sketch and or visualise designs beneficial
