London, UK
Architect/Part 2 assistant
at Stephen Kavanagh Architects

Stephen Kavanagh Architects is seeking an architect/Part 2 assistant to join its team in London.

Stephen Kavanagh Architects is looking for an enthusiastic and skilled architect/Part 2 assistant to join its team in London, starting June or July 2025.

This is a role for someone who is hungry for responsibility, ready to take ownership, and wants to make a real impact in a growing practice.

The practice

Stephen Kavanagh Architects (SKA) is a small, design-led RIBA-chartered practice based in South London, focused on crafted, high-quality residential architecture with aspirations to expand into other sectors. We take pride in producing work that is ambitious yet grounded, and we welcome fresh creative input as our project portfolio continues to grow.

The role

We’re looking for a skilled and enthusiastic architect or Part 2 assistant who thrives on autonomy, works hard, and is excited to grow with us. As a small studio, you’ll be involved in every aspect of the process – from concept to completion – including design development, technical detailing, consultant coordination and contract administration. There will also be opportunities to contribute to marketing and the strategic direction of the practice.

Effectively, all aspects of running a small studio.

What we’re looking for:

  • personable, self-motivated, and organised
  • strong design and technical skills, with a sound construction knowledge
  • experience working on UK residential projects
  • proficiency in Vectorworks and SketchUp
  • desirable: Adobe Suite, MS Office, NBS Chorus, Enscape
  • good understanding of UK Building Regulations
  • experience of Contract Administration
  • confidence in client and contractor liaison
  • interest in the dynamics of a smaller practice and willingness to grow with it

This is a key role in a small studio, and demonstrating ability and initiative will be key.  It is an opportunity for someone who is interested in the less structured nature of smaller practices and wants to develop quickly.

Applicants must be eligible to work in the UK.

What we offer:

  • a full-time role, based at the Department Store in Brixton
  • supportive and family-oriented culture
  • flexible working options
  • 32 days annual leave (including bank holidays and Christmas closure)
  • RIBA-aligned salary
  • profit-sharing incentives for embedded staff
  • benefits including workplace pension, cyclescheme, formal and informal training
  • a collaborative and engaging working environment
  • a chance for creative input and “taking ownership”
  • opportunities to grow with and within the practice
  • professional development support, including Part 3 sponsorship where relevant

Stephen Kavanagh Architects is an equal opportunity employer and welcomes applications from all qualified candidates.
