Contracts manager
at Studio Egret West
Studio Egret West is looking for a contracts manager to join its team in Clerkenwell, London.
SEW is an award-winning multidisciplinary practice of over 80 architects, urban designers, landscape architects, graphic designers, model makers and filmmakers. We design and curate places with compelling narratives and identities; places that are firmly rooted in their context and grow naturally out of it.
Our growing portfolio of UK and international projects leads us to seek a contracts manager to review contracts, including design scope, fees, resources and expenses. The ideal candidate will be used to working in UK and Europe based architectural contracts, of varied complexity. This role would suit a candidate who wishes to work flexibly, two to three days a week.
Roles and responsibilities:
- use legal and commercial experience to review contracts, collateral warranties, NDAs and legal documents to agree on suitable protection in its agreements with clients and sub-consultants
- draft and amend design contracts, and collaboration agreements with other consultants, including structuring a project contract to best protect against liabilities and reduce risks
- discuss contract issues internally and with clients and collaborators and use judgment to recommend the correct resolution of issues
- work with insurance advisors to ensure that contracts are legally abiding
- manage the process for contract documentation to be agreed on time
- work closely with the Leadership team to understand key opportunities requiring a review of contract documentation
- prepare complete contract documentation for internal sign off and then work with the leadership team to present and agree with the client
- work with the leadership team to capture the appropriate scope, deliverables and timelines for agreements
- analyse contracts and make amendment recommendations to ensure process orientated approach to project development is protected and embedded
- work with the leadership and finance teams to agree a suitable expense estimate
Additional responsibilities:
- keep all appointments updated and filed
- contribute actively to quality management processes to archive and file project information, and maintain a contract risk register
- provide training and CPDs to staff on legal and contract issues
Skills and experience:
- experience carrying out legal and commercial contract reviews, highlighting issues and risks
- judgement to recommend possible ways to resolve contract issues
- experience monitoring project appointments and management processes and contracts risk register
- drive to push the resolution of fee and contract issues in a timely manner
- excellent drafting skills to prepare and amend commercial and legal documentation, such as design agreements, consultant collaboration agreements, NDAs, fee proposals, scope of services
- awareness of the scope and resourcing requirements needed to carry out complex international design projects
- experience in estimating design fees and expenses
- excellent communication skills to present any fee or contract issues in a clear and concise manner
- organised to keep contract documents and fee information in good order
- personable to build relationships with prospective clients and consultants
