Margate, UK
Project architect/Part 2 architectural assistant
at Studio Sam Causer
Studio Sam Causer is seeking a project architect/Part 2 architectural assistant to join its team in Margate, UK.
Studio Sam Causer is offering a full-time position for an ambitious, intelligent and dedicated individual to join our practice in Margate, Kent.
We can accommodate a range of experience from a fully qualified project architect to a Part 2 architectural assistant with a minimum of three years’ experience in practice and an interest in studying for Part 3 with us.
You should have a strong interest in the conservation of historic buildings to suit contemporary life.
The studio
Established in 2005, Studio Sam Causer is an ambitious design and research-led, RIBA-accredited conservation architecture practice, with projects ranging from domestic alterations to urban planning and artistic intervention. Recognised by The Architecture Foundation as one of the best emerging practices in the UK, with projects mainly in Margate, East Kent and London.
Working in multi-layered, historic environments, we bring a philosophical rigour grounded in an astute understanding of the way materials and humans behave. We enjoy the architectural legacy that each generation leaves – recording available technologies, experiences and other cultural influences combined with a love for how the built environment grows and adapts accordingly. We are committed to understanding the environmental and social impact of buildings, and whilst everybody has a responsibility to form good relations with our environment, the architectural team is well placed to balance the tangible and intangible elements that together create spaces worthy of our collective capability.
Our portfolio includes the conservation of buildings from the 17th century to the 20th century, most notably re-imagining a five-mile public park in Margate and the transformation of the Grade II* listed Modernist Kensal House Community Rooms. We’re currently working on a new visitor centre in the marshes at Pegwell Bay, the re-purposing of a disused platform at Margate Railway Station, a new house on Market Place in Margate, the conservation of a 19th-century hotel in Folkestone and repairs and alterations to King Edward VIII’s holiday home in Sandwich, amongst other things.
