Studio Sam Causer is seeking a project architect to join its team in Margate, UK.
Studio Sam Causer is looking for a confident and experienced project architect to join our small but ambitious practice in Margate. If you’re a hands-on designer with at least five years’ post-Part 3 experience, and a passion for heritage, adaptive reuse, and socially-conscious architecture, we’d love to hear from you.
What we’re looking for:
- RIBA-qualified architect with a minimum five years’ post-Part 3 experience
- solid track record in leading complex construction projects
- a deep interest in historic buildings, conservation philosophy, and sustainable futures
- experience with detailed design, statutory approvals, consultant coordination, and site inspections
- collaborative and confident in both client liaison and contract administration
- highly organised, self-motivated and unafraid to take initiative
About the studio
Founded in 2005, we are a design- and research-led RIBA-accredited conservation practice working across East Kent and London. We operate in layered historic environments – from Georgian townhouses to Modernist icons – balancing philosophical rigour with material sensitivity.
Current work includes:
- conservation and re-use of large, early 1900s seafront concert hall
- conservation of small country estate with buildings and landscape
- new visitor centre for coastal wetlands.
We value craft, ecology, culture and care in our work – and in the way we treat each other.
Your role:
- leading architectural projects from concept to completion
- managing consultants and site teams
- producing drawings, specifications and tender/construction packages
- making planning/listed building applications
- researching, experimenting, and challenging convention
- rupporting the studio’s wider mission – social, cultural, environmental.
Bonus points if you’re familiar with: Vectorworks, SketchUp, Adobe CS, and the ICOMOS Conservation Guidelines.
